ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

I just unrooted and put 2.01 on my Droid, can I download the file from the first page and update to 2.2 without updating to 2.1 first?

Like has been said at least thirty or forty times, yes.

I have stock 2.1 (non-root) and want to install the full 2.2 system (linked to in post 1). Do I need to root before doing this?

Sorry for asking what has probably been asked several (OK many) times over the 67 pages here...but...my head is spinning after so many pages :icon_eek:

Like has been said at least twenty or thirty times, this file does not require root. It actually breaks root if you install it.

So I got last weeks FRG10b instead of FRG22because I didn't want to root. I didn't wait for the OTA because I heard VZW would remove the hotspot feature and charge $20/month to get it turned on.

It looks like the jokes on me, because I can't find the hotspot option in settings. Where is it supposed to be? I'm thinking that since FRG10b is the signed VZW version, it already had that feature removed and I'm pretty much stuck without rooting (which I'm not going to do).

Like I've personally said probably five times in this thread alone, rooting is the only way to get a WiFi hotspot (and Ad-Hoc only at that) on your Droid 1. Perhaps that's the only way it'll ever be. Verizon doesn't want it on because it competes with the flagship phones. They even charge for official USB tethering unless something's changed since the leaked FRG01B hit the scene weeks ago, and from what I've heard reported (I believe in this thread), it still pay-to-play. If you heard a rumor that VZW or Motorola put a WiFi tethering option in, you heard wrong. That rumor's been quashed since the first leaked builds had no such option.

what is the tethering menu under the wireless settings menu?

USB tethering on a pay-per-month plan.

If you want to USB tether either root and use the app from my sig, flash a custom ROM that has it enabled already for free, or use Easy Tether, PDANet, or Proxoid from the market. Proxoid is free but configuration can be a nightmare if you're not tech savvy, PDANet has a bluetooth option, and Easy Tether is half the cost and every bit as easy to use as the name implies.

hmm..i'm confused as to which one you downloaded? i thought whatever was put out on the 10th was the froyo rooted rom? Are you talking about the 'patch' update?

And i guess you unrooted by installing a 2.0.1 sbf and all that? ooohhhh...so confusing lol

I unrooted using RSD lite and put 2.0.1 on the phone, then I got the 2.1 OTA update and installed it. I then got this file from the first page of this thread: Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire. I will most likely root again, but I was having some real stability issues with my phone, I think because I kept bouncing from rom to rom, wiping and then loading and I think the phone got lost a bit. So when I unrooted, I even formatted the SDcard and started as if it were a new phone, ran it like that for about a week and then just tonight loaded the stock 2.2 update. Hope that makes it clear as mud LOL.

Clear now thanks! So I guess you cleared your apps and stuff when you unrooted. But then whatever you had installed after that stayed with you when you upgraded to froyo.

Well I guess I'm gonna lose my apps no matter how I try to get froyo. Ill try to use titanium backup cuz I can root the 01b build and get everything back I guess. I've just never done that before so ill have to make sure I know what I'm doing.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me :)

Yep apps all cleared, I used appbrain for a while, so I was able to see what apps I wanted to put back on and was selective. Good luck

I installed Jimmy's FRG01B rooted file over a FRG22 ROM and all went well. While looking at stuff in \system\app\ that I could delete to save room and memory, I noticed that most *.apk files had an associated *.odex file. What are they and can they be deleted or removed in some manner?

Thanks for the help
If the apks have a .odex file associated with them it mean the file hasn't been DeOdexed. You can't get rid of them without DeOdexing the system, and unless you're going to theme it there's no reason to DeOdex the ROM. Odexed ROMs have been reportedly snappier, but YMMV.

As mentioned before in several posts, I too had flashed the OTA smaller size Froyo update last week. Noticed home screen lag and browser lag. I just flashed the larger size OTA update, and all lag issues are gone. Running much smoother. I would recommend this to anyone who has the first update.

Ok, so I also manually updated my phone last week to Froyo 2.2 and have noticed lots of lag. I don't have a rooted phone and I used the Original DROID. What should I do? Can I uninstall the update from last week and install a new update? and where would I get the Newest version of Froyo 2.2? Cause I thought there was supposed to be a FRG22 or something like that. Thanks :)

Received OTA update to 2.2 yesterday mid-morning (EDT) on my Moto Droid. So far, so good - one weird little glitch that caused shortcuts dragged to the third row of the screen one to the left of the main home screen to immediately disappear, but that went away when I rebooted the phone. I have one app whose icon won't appear, though the title does - that's the app needing an update, I'm sure.

The Big Happy is that I now have full voice dial support from my Jawbone without touching the phone. Halle-freakin-lujah!

Just to clarify, did you actually receive it OTA or did you pull it from the OP on this thread?

From the OP.

I used the file from the OP and flashed right over the first one.

I'm sorry, but I'm SUPER new here. Where is the OP? and since I'm not rooted... I don't fully understand when you say flash it over the first one.

Doing the Manual update was the first "Technical" thing I've done with my phone.

Install this file over the other one.

THIS FILE DOES NOT REQUIRE ROOT!

THIS FILE DOES NOT REQUIRE ROOT!

FRG22 does, however, and there are several people (Hookbill, for example), who have gone back to this one from FRG22.

There is no way to "uninstall" an update without a custom recovery image or an SBF file. This file is a cleaner install than the patch and as a result it deals with the lag issues reported by some/many.

Scroll either up or down till you see "Page 67 of 67" and then those two small arrows pointing left.

OP = Original Post/Original Poster.

You just install this file like you did the last one. I believe you need to make sure it's named update.zip rather than what you download it as.

Where is the Opening Post? It's on page 1.

I'm sorry but I have been doing some searching and I am not clear. I have stock 2.1. I just downloaded the .zip file from the first page to my computer. That is as far as I have gotten. What are the next steps to getting that 2.2 file installed on my phone? Thanks.
