ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

HE'S A MAAAADDD MAAAAAAAAAANNN LMFAO!!! I'm in deep now. It really does feel like I have a new phone. Just finished bringing the CPU up to 1ghz! and have a 1.1 and 1.25 waiting in the wings but for now this thing is like lightning compared to what I was used to. That just goes to show how throttled back Motorola had the chip in the original Droid.

Go slowly, and when you get there, try a lower-voltage kernel to see if you can save some juice at the same time. Remember, every Droid is different. The exact chip put in the phone was designed to run at 600MHz, but throttled back to 550 in the original configuration for some reason.

Have fun and play safe!

Actually I went with the kernels built from "p3droid". The low end on the one I'm using is 250mhz which is where it was at stock according to setCPU. Don't know if these are the best or not...just know I got tired of trying different kernels and never could get them to show up on the SDcard and started from scratch. Found ONE manager that would work with ONE set of kernels and this work flawlessly first shot. "ROM Manager" with the kernels from p3droid

Don't know what happened to the above quote furbearinmammal? I botched it up trying to delete stuff I guess :icon_eek:

OK...so yet another noob question for ya (or is that ya'll)... :icon_rolleyes: I assume it's OK to delete the update.zip file from the SD card after updating? Will leaving it there interfere with any future OTA updates?

Your assumption is correct.

Will leaving it there interfere with any future OTA updates?

Correct again. However, I suggest that you save that update.zip file on your PC somewhere and rename it to something like update(2.2).zip or something like that , in case you need to use it again in the future.\

It happens. I've had them botch even when I didn't delete a thing.

Okay, if you want to play with P3Droid's kernels and get them straight from the source without mucking about with ROM Manager, here you go:

P3Droid Kernels

Just make sure you're getting the FroYo kernels. IIRC they're under the Eclair kernels. ChevyNo1 kernels are available here:

Smoked Energy 1.3 theme for SimplyStunning 4.6

And keep in mind you'll want to watch for which voltage you get. ULV might not play well with your phone if you want to try them -- but they might save you battery life and generate less heat to boot. Every Droid is different.

So I dont need to wipe date/wipe cache? Just do the update.zip method with sprecovery?
If you're installing a kernel, no, you don't NEED to wipe. However, if you're having lag issues it might be a good idea to do so in SPRecovery. Remember to make a nandroid/clockwork backup first.

If what you just said is true in the answer for the second part then that would be the way to go for people who don't want to be hassled with an update notice is to leave a folder named update.zip on the SDcard???

That wouldn't work because the phone's smart enough to tell the difference between a file and a directory.

Maybe a dummy update.zip would work, but I don't know.

I was specifically talking about installing the 2.2 manually. Do I need to wipe? I'd rather not.
With the file from the OP, no. It does the wiping for you and leaves your files intact. It will break root, however, so you'll need to root afterwards.

i've read post #1 and it doesen't really help me but maybe i'm overlooking it.
i'll clarify my question... if i go ahead and let it update then re-root and go back to the "ultimate Droid" rom will it then re-notify me to update?

if your ultimate droid is below frg01b then yes you will be re-notified

is there away then to get the notifications to stop without updating?

if rooted read this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bu...how-stop-ota-notifications-bugless-beast.html

Well I still have the update.zip on my SDcard and haven't seen an OTA notice yet since the manual update. Just for $hit$ and giggles I'll just make a dummy update.zip and leave it on the SDcard and see what happens. Might be on to something there....
