ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

HE'S A MAAAADDD MAAAAAAAAAANNN LMFAO!!! I'm in deep now. It really does feel like I have a new phone. Just finished bringing the CPU up to 1ghz! and have a 1.1 and 1.25 waiting in the wings but for now this thing is like lightning compared to what I was used to. That just goes to show how throttled back Motorola had the chip in the original Droid.

Go slowly, and when you get there, try a lower-voltage kernel to see if you can save some juice at the same time. Remember, every Droid is different. The exact chip put in the phone was designed to run at 600MHz, but throttled back to 550 in the original configuration for some reason.

Have fun and play safe!

Update on how it went: I was running the 2.2 update from over a week ago, and rooted using EasyRoot. Had SetCPU running, and a couple other small apps for root-only users just because, but no ROMs or backups. I went ahead and updated Jrummy's file from Page 6, and the install went without a hitch. Had to re-root, reboot, then restart SetCPU.

The only issue I ran into was a couple of large apps I had moved to the SD card to save internal memory; their icons disappeared from the list of apps, and the on-screen icons changed to generic Droid icons of some sort, but they ran just fine. I re-installed them using "App Monster", a useful tool from the Market, and they reappeared in the app list. I deleted the generic icons and replaced with the new ones, and all is good again.

Seems someone else had a similar issue; it makes sense because I had a previous setup referencing files on a separate drive, then did a rewrite, so some of the references didn't get copied. No big deal, and no other problems.

Thanks everyone for your help; I'll be digging through other forums as I get deeper into this, as I get braver. :icon_eek:

Glad it worked out for you. If you have any questions, maybe the link in my signature can help you out with some of them. :) As above, so below -- have fun and play safe.

Ok so do we need to wipe data/wipe cache at all?

I downloaded the file on the first page, and did the update.zip method.

It seemed to be running VERY SLOW.

Then I installed Chevy's Kernel, and my phone was doing very crazy things. Would FC all the time, my 3G wouldn't show up, it said my battery was dead, kept turning my phone off, etc.

Anyone know what went wrong?

Crap, just realized that I wasn't running a "froyo" kernel of his, it was the same one I used for my 2.1update version. Could this be the problem?

haha i actually have a very similar question as mateenager's...

i'm running the stock rooted froyo with the stock kernel..before froyo, i was running stock 2.1 rooted with a LV Chevy 1.1GHz kernel from this thread.. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ch...s-low-voltage-medium-voltage-3-25-2010-a.html

And I was wondering if i could use the same kernel for froyo? I know p3droid kernels are separated between 2.1 and froyo, but on the chevy thread, there isn't any mention on whether these are 2.1 only or anything. I know the thread started back in March before there were leaked froyo roms.

So is there another site where there are Chevy kernels for froyo?

i did the 2.2 update last night on a non-rooted droid and when i got up this morning the apps are in alphabetical order as usual but only go up to "L" (latitude app)....i can see my missing apps in the manage apps area but can't seem to figure out how to get them back on my apps page......there are things missing like street view, pandora..anything after the letter "L"....am i doing something wrong?

ok, sry i figured it out....you have to long touch screen/shortcuts/applications...select (touch) the app ya want and it will go back to screen (desktop). apparently you can't get them back into the apps area??? and you have to create a seperate folder...kinda weird. you can't drag them to the apps folder because the apps tab changes into the trash can...:icon_eek:

The app never disappears out of the app area. When you drag it into the trash can it just disappears off your home screen. It's always available int the app drawer as well.

ok, so i manually updated to FroYo last week, shortly after that i rooted and now i'm running "ultimate Droid Extreme 6.0.0". this morning i get the notifacation from VZW to update OTA, and every 20mins or so it reminds me to update. how should i deal with this? i like my phone the way it is now, what happens if i update?

when i touch the app tab ( the center tab)on the home screen the apps come up with the home icon at the bottom and are in alphabetical order....but they only go up to the letter L....in 2.1 you could scroll that screen but for whatever reason anything after L is gone from there. i created another folder on the home screen and placed the missing ones in there.

i've read post #1 and it doesen't really help me but maybe i'm overlooking it.
i'll clarify my question... if i go ahead and let it update then re-root and go back to the "ultimate Droid" rom will it then re-notify me to update?

Best answer anyone can give you is "maybe" but with the caveat that if it does, just let it do its thing and let your alternate recovery image, be it SPRecovery or ClockworkMOD Recovery, block the actual install itself. This would be the same thing as when a Bugless Beast user got the notification. I forget where in the thread it was, and don't blame you for not wanting to slog through 80ish pages looking for it, but it's there.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say yes. See below.

You can't use an Eclair kernel with FroYo. At the very least it'll interfere with the battery and cause major performance issues, at the very worst it'll throw you into a boot loop.

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ch...w-froyo-kernels-cpu-temp-monitoring-back.html is the link to ChevyNo1's latest kernels for FroYo, and as you can see they work in TempMonitor AND SetCPU to give you CPU temps, which up till very recently did not work under FroYo.

The install method is the same as it has always been, and if you want/need a refresher, see the link in my signature for instructions and help.

if your ultimate droid is below frg01b then yes you will be re-notified

is there away then to get the notifications to stop without updating?
