Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

I would like to see how many of you are as ticked as I am about Verizon, Google, or Motorola leaving out the additional screens and the 3D app drawer.

First of all WHY should they be Nexus exclusive? I have a feeling this has to to with Verizon, but I have no proof. I like the live wallpaper and the drawer app would have been cool, but I expected additional screens regardless. Wow what a disappointment. I love my droid :motdroidvert: , but it could be so much better.

GOOGLE I THOUGHT ANDROID WAS OPEN! Why are you caving into manufactures and providers, stand your ground we have your back. We buy your stuff because we hate your competition. Thanks for letting me vent.

tsteege
LOL there is just so much wrong with this comment.

I manually installed the update, works exactly as it should. ... the only drawback, and A HUGE one for me (that I unfortunately didn't consider beforehand) is NO WIFI tether :-(. How can I revert back to 2.0.1 and redo B.B? Please help.

The only way I know of is to flash the 2.0.1 esd56 sbf with RSD Lite

huh I am doing wifi tether right now as I type this, so apparently that can't be true.

I have noticed a ton of twitter comments popping up in the last 15 minutes about updating to 2.1. I tend to think people did get the update tonight or many a people have said screw the OTA update and forced it.

They also said 24 hours after the last one, which is right now..

My advice is don't read into it too much. They mean 4/01 at 11:59pm Eastern Time. Go by the dates used not the fact they said 24 hours.

didnt it say there will be a 24 hour period where no updates are pushed

Yes they did but they also said 4/01 at 11:59pm Eastern time which is indeed more than 24 hours but i would go more on the date and time given than just going by the 24 hour thing.

hey since i got the 2.1-update1 is this the final version of the 2.1?

i got it in the morning of 3/31/10 around 1:00 am

Its actually from the 2.1r2s branch, which is newer than the N1, which has software from the 2.1r2 branch.

Don't ask me what s stands for. I just know its newer and most likely a Droid specific branch.

Got it ! !

I decided after all the waiting for an OTA that I just couldn't wait any longer and I followed the links to manually apply the update and it truly works ! It took a few attempts to get my SD card to be recognized but after a couple reboots and a few minutes later it updated. It took about 6 minutes total and I am now running 2.1 . Believe the hype people , it's real . So far I have noticed longer battery life and the live wallpapers are cool , and don't seem as laggy to me as people are suggesting. Also the new gallery view is very cool. It's gonna take a little getting used to but the clarity is amazing and the 3D graphics are very cool ! If you don't wanna wait for the OTA like I didn't , the process is very easy , and I say that because if I can do it , anyone can do it . Many props to all the guys here that help , couldn't have done it without you , THANK YOU ! ! !

Just got it working and I must say I'm pleased. Although, sometimes I feel like there is some lag, but its not too bad. Snappy for the most part. Playing through the live wallpapers and already grew tired of them. Haha.
