Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

I decided after all the waiting for an OTA that I just couldn't wait any longer and I followed the links to manually apply the update and it truly works ! It took a few attempts to get my SD card to be recognized but after a couple reboots and a few minutes later it updated. It took about 6 minutes total and I am now running 2.1 . Believe the hype people , it's real . So far I have noticed longer battery life and the live wallpapers are cool , and don't seem as laggy to me as people are suggesting. Also the new gallery view is very cool. It's gonna take a little getting used to but the clarity is amazing and the 3D graphics are very cool ! If you don't wanna wait for the OTA like I didn't , the process is very easy , and I say that because if I can do it , anyone can do it . Many props to all the guys here that help , couldn't have done it without you , THANK YOU ! ! !

Guess it just isnt me then, the screen does look a bit sharper doesnt it?

i gave in as well ..kinda did want to wait for ota but gave in ....

appears so

Screen looks sharper and clearer . It's too late to make a phone call , but i'm hearing that the call quality is much better . cant wait for that , hope its for real ! !

The 2.1 update is the S***!!!

OK so I just got the 2.1 update. So far I can say that I'm truly impressed!! Love the new gallery 3-d effect!

That's one of the first things I noticed was that they did something to the screen to make it much sharper and crisper. I can read stuff better and they also modified the lighting conditions settings.

My call quality was perfect before... so no improvement, could only get worse.

I'm curious if ANYONE has a Docking Station and can tell me if the lights still stay on all night and what theirs looks like now.

I would like to see how many of you are as ticked as I am about Verizon, Google, or Motorola leaving out the additional screens and the 3D app drawer.

First of all WHY should they be Nexus exclusive? I have a feeling this has to to with Verizon, but I have no proof. I like the live wallpaper and the drawer app would have been cool, but I expected additional screens regardless. Wow what a disappointment. I love my droid :motdroidvert: , but it could be so much better.

GOOGLE I THOUGHT ANDROID WAS OPEN! Why are you caving into manufactures and providers, stand your ground we have your back. We buy your stuff because we hate your competition. Thanks for letting me vent.

tsteege
LOL there is just so much wrong with this comment.

Please let me know what is wrong with it.

3D App Drawer

Isn't there a 3D drawer App we can get from the market or somewhere to apply to this update since it was obviously left out for some reason ?

Why does everyone want the 3d app drawer - I had it and it STINKS, even Nexus owners hate it.

If you want more screens get Helix... you don't want the 3d Drawer.

Isn't there a 3D drawer App we can get from the market or somewhere to apply to this update since it was obviously left out for some reason ?

Sound's like an April Fool's Day Joke To me!!

It's the real deal , if someone can tell me how to take a screen shot of my phone i'll do it to prove it !

I think for a lot of us the skepticism is due to the fact we are android newbies. I did the manual install but I can help but in the back of my mind wonder if I totally just screwed the pooch. Reading some of your posts have eased my minds a bit but this is my first smartphone so this is all new to me. I can't help but stay up and wait to see if someone can prove they got the real OTA update. I am being ridiculous I know!

So easy to install with just the Droid in hand and astro file manager
Did it at work this morning and 2.1 dropped on all the other Droid owners at work which are mostly IT guys. I was telling them I got super user control and loaded a custom rom.....LOL. they will be like that little liar when they get the ota in few days.

Im sorry, but I didn't save my links from 4 months ago related to this issue. I don't have the time while at work to dig through this. Most of it is going to be long gone because it has since been updated, but I'm sure it could be found. I think it was Adobe's date for release as the Droid was already capable of running it when it is made available, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not the only one that saw this. It is referenced all over the place, and even stories now about how the date promised is going to pass, etc. It's common knowledge, and I'm not going to debate it.

It isn't impatience. People replace their phones every year or two... most of us more frquently. The phone was advertised to have Flash support and a promise of end of Q1 was given for it. Today is the last day of Q1, and it's not here. I don't want to wait until Im ready for a new phone to get Flash support for the Droid. It's really not all that complex of an issue. I don't like it when promises aren't kept. Espeically when my money is involved.

Lack of 3 home screens bugs the piss out of me, but it's not anything they've ever promised. Live wallpapers are also not an issue for me, so I'd have rather they worked on the former than the latter. Rotating desktop as well. The other aspects of this update are great. I think I'm going to wait for a DroidMod release of it though.

Promised in first quarter? I remember promised in first half. Now I could very well be wrong about that, so shoot me a link showing first quarter and I'll buy that.

He is right. When i launched the browser prior to purchase it came up with adobe site stating flash for android available 1st quarter 2010. of course we all now know it says not available for you browser or os but thats what it said late DEC 2009.
