Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Not sure if it's been brought up already, but has anyone that has done the update notice any diff in battery life???

I have and it seems to be far better as now, towards the end of day, where it would normally be 15-20% i'm now at only 40-50% with the same amount of use...

Just curious if anyone else has noticed the same..

Yes the battery now lasts about twice as long. Wallpapers don't take up much of any power. Right now the things that are taking the most power are Voice and Display.

And yes the screen is sharper than it was before.

Damn i'm so tempted to do it Manually but i don't want to receive a notification OTA if i do it manually and be screwed. And don't want to miss out on future OTA updates.

Hang in there MiX, I'm holding out too. Not sure why other than I just don't wanna jump on the "Gotta have it now" bandwagon. Only 4 hrs and 20 min, until the next phase starts, so maybe then.

You won't. The OTA update thats leaked is the same thing. People who are updating OTA--their phone is getting it from the same link that it was found at.

You won't recieve the OTA if you do it manually, because it will already show your system is up to date. And for future updates, you will still get them, because it will them show your system as out of date.

Does anyone know when the next update might roll out? Will it be tonight after midnight again, or will there be another 24 hour wait in between?

Stop worrying about future updates if you do it manually it has no effect on whether or not you will get them.

All you are doing when you do it manually is getting the same software as you would get from the OTA...

People did the manual update on 2.01 and they are getting the 2.1 OTA now... it's not an issue.

Anyone that is still waiting, why don't you do it manually? It's the same exact thing, and it's really easy. I got it about 5 minutes after they released the update.zip and couldn't be happier.
Why not manually? Because I really don't care to do it. Just like I don't care about doing the "R" thing to my phone either.

When I get it, I get it. I was never in the "need-the-latest-thing-right-now" club.

I debated the OTA vs. manual update options. Then my Droid made my decision for me. When I shut it down a couple of nights ago, it rebooted and stayed stuck at the Moto logo. I did endless battery pulls and tried to restore to different backups. When they didn't work, I did a hard-reset. When even that didn't work, I did another hard reset, downloaded and installed the 2.1 update.zip file on the Droid, then rebooted. It booted up beautifully into 2.1 and after re-entering my gmail account and re-downloading the apps I use, the Droid is back in bidness! :icon_ banana:
