Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Got my update to 2.1 this morning. Had to un-install google maps and download new app from market place, all is well.

Just downloaded update this morning. Everything works great. I can't believe how accurate the speech to text is. Absolutely amazing. Google goggles is cool too!

I got the push last night at midnight. I had no idea what it did nor did I know it was coming. I waited until I got home from work to read up on it. The first thing I came across was a bad news story (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Droid-smartphone-Google-android-OS,news-6352.html)
The article showed what the update had in it. But I noticed my battery use was much better. What I have seen so far it is pretty impressive. I haven't noticed a slow down at all. I had to delete my gallery icon and repost it.
Again I like it a lot.

Yeah!

Slammed on the update.zip on my phone and a friend's.

firmware: 2.1-update1
build #: ESE81

WORKS LIKE A CHAMP. I would say there is a 5% loss in performance over all from 2.0.1 to 2.1. I personally keep my apps tight and my tasks killed, yeah yeah I know killing tasks is arguably beneficial. I believe it is for a lot of reasons and I won't get into this here.

However! All the negative crap you read / hear, its all crap! Download the update or just wait.

I got the update from here: http://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

If anyone wants to manual install, google something like "Droid 2.1 update.zip", its probably discussed in this thread even, but google might be quicker.

And I am pretty confiednt it being from a google site, no issues coming my way!

Good luck all! And for those still waiting, its all good I was there this afternoon and just spazzed out and went for it like a Bada$$!

Have a good weekend all.

Not sure of the motivations behind the writer of this article. Plenty of people here have reported that performance is a bit better, especially in the battery life department. Sounds like it was written by someone with a ax to grind....

Battery life is DEFINITELY better but scrolling has slowed down for me.

People working for Verizon or Motorola of course are going to try to tell us the forced update was bogus or a test, they are just mad it got out before they pushed it. I have a close friend who manages several verizon stores and he told me himself today all his employees were doing the manual update. If that doesn't ease your mind a bit, nothing will. People who got the official OTA update are reporting similar problems to the ones people who forced it. Although I will say I have had no problems with my phone after updating. The updates have been great!
