Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

RRRR, I got my wife's Droid about a month after mine, and she got the update today, and I still have not seen it on my phone, but sure it will be soon. Life is so unfair! :-)

Response From Motorola...I'm bummed

I had emailed Motorola regarding the upate and below is their response. Please tell me that I'm not reading this correctly or that there is an explanation? Thanks for you help!

Response (Mardave Grace Gochuico)04/02/2010 01:16 PMDear tammy,

Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve reviewed your e-mail and I’m ready to help.

The official release for the 2.1 software update has not been announced yet. There is an update released but this is only a TEST VERSION. The system randomly picks the units who will be receiving these updates. Kindly keep an eye to the official release. This week, we lost all VERIZON connections (Cell, DSL & house phone) like being in the Twilight Zone. While spending an hour of "quality" time with the Verizon rep I was describing the icons at the top of my phone - I saw a yellow triange w/an exclamation sign - it went away when we finally came back up. I think I was part of the push. At any rate I went to this site, followed the EASY instructions and within 5 min had 2.1 - Manual Android 2.1 Update for Motorola Droid | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog
Easy easy!!!!

If you have the 3D APP Launcher (Launcher2 I think it's called) and receive the update on VZW's schedule will your phone get all goofy* and require a hard reset or is that just a feature of the manual update?

Basically should people make any reverting type of moves before the update arrives?

I'm liking this 2.1 BTW.

* by goofy I mean stuck in an endless force close loop.

:icon_ banana:Well ended up getting a brand new Droid after the freeze up. On my second but loving it. Only down fall is waiting for the update again.

Now that i got the update, i noticed that i have the option of uninstalling the new gallery and somethin latin language input...is that normal ???? I dont get why there sowing up if its part of the new OS...ALSO im not relly liking the neural adroid live wallpaer its to plain in color...is there a way to get he nexus one that has like four colors insttead of read and black
I did the manual update and i have in my Manage Applications section now two icons com.android.gallery and com.android.inputmethod.latin is this what you are talking about? My question is will someone who got the OTA update look in Manage Applications and see if these are there.

I'd like to know this, too. :)

I did the manual update yesterday, and now the Voice Commands functionality of my phone is freezing it up to the point where I have to do battery pulls to get it out of it. Problem just started, and the only change I've made to my phone is the update itself. Is anyone else having this issue?

I have the helix launcher and had a couple of force close after update..thus far has been good..hard reset was not required

I checked and I have only one ICON for each. I did the manual update.

The person who wrote you this has **** for brains. Verizon officially announced it as well as Motorola. It's been pushed to over 200,000 phones at least.

Thanks SSHGuru.

I also did the manual update and have one of each of these program icons. What I'd like to know is if the OTA updaters also have them; while I have no doubt the update itself is the same, I am wondering if the OTA process does cleanup differently than the manual installation.

Thanks Guru! I feel better now. Hopefully your right and this person doesn't know what he's talking about. It's weird because when I emailed Motorola about the update, I even mentioned Motorola announcing the update but they didn't even address that. Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
