Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

I'm a few days on now with my manual update and... My Droid is starting to slow down a bit :( . Gettin' a little laggy at odd times. The good news is that I'm finding the Water 'live' wallpaper to be quite lovely, and relaxing :) . I don't know why everybody's hatin' on Google Goggles; I've used it a few times, and it was right on the money every time (so far  ) .

Okay problem....

My phone was docked on the multimedia stand and I saw the update notification. I chose to install it and I thought it was finished installing when I removed it from the dock. It suddenly reset (normally doesn't do that when pulling from the dock) and now the launcher fails to launch and I force close it continually. Doesn't even get to the launch screen after I do my passcode.

Help, what do I do? Can I just go back to the Verizon store this afternoon or is there something I can do myself!?

Are you using a different launcher then stock? If so have someone send you a text or message and pull down you notification bar (for some reason this stops the fc message from showing for a sec)..you should be able to hit your menu button on the bottom, go into settings then applications then filter by all (more menu button)..find your launcher and hit clear defaults...should give you and option now to pick which launcher to use when you hit your home button...hope this helps

i had the same thing when i had 'launcher2.apk' installed. i got lucky because i had my task manager running on startup and it was in my notification bar. i had to be quick, but i had to pull down the bar and do whatever i needed to do in between the lag time of you pressing "force close" and when it shows up again on the screen. you gotta go to settings/manage applications///click "launcher" and Clear Defaults under "Launch by Default" menu.

so i guess if you get to settings somehow youll be good. Launcher2.apk doesnt work anymore with the new update. neither does Helix Launcher2

Did anyone ever find out why google earth was there at first on the market and not now? I dont want to do the reset unless I really have to! I know the reset for some reason will show up after a reset but are we missing other apps too?

Well, not sure what this has to do with the 2.1 upgrade...but I found Google Earth on the market yesterday just fine.

Has anyone had any luck with the speech to voice app? Whenever I use it, it is terriblyl innacurate. Is this feature trainable?

I am assuming that you meant to say speech to text. It uses the same Google engine that Google Maps uses, so it should be just as accurate. Google Maps has been very accurate for me. I have not tried the speech to text yet.

The 2.1 upgrade is great. If you want extra screens download helix. But my battery power has increased a lot. Speech to text and live wallpapers are phenomenal. Don't complain enjoy what you have. If you don't want to root this is your option.
