Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Has anyone had any luck with the speech to voice app? Whenever I use it, it is terriblyl innacurate. Is this feature trainable?

I am assuming that you meant to say speech to text. It uses the same Google engine that Google Maps uses, so it should be just as accurate. Google Maps has been very accurate for me. I have not tried the speech to text yet.
I've tried it, and for me it works great.

I used it today for Twitter (I use Seesmic) and for texting. I just speak into the mic and it translates it perfectly. In fact, I joked that the cops will never catch me texting now. :D

Mine is a little bit warmer. Got the update late on Friday and noticed it yesterday when I grabbed the phone. Nothing huge, just never noticed any heat from it before. Don't think there's any reason for concern, however.

Where are the extra screens for 2.1?

WHERE ARE THE EXTRA 2 SCREENS AS PROMISED WITH 2.1 FOR THE MOTOROLA DROID? HAVE THEY LIED AGAIN!!! PLEASE HELP!!

That didn't happen. We also didn't get the 3D app launch.

You can always use Home++, Helix, GDE or other home apps for those extra screens.

We didn't see more home screens or wallpaper....maybe it was just a rumor.

By "more...wallpaper" are you talking about the live wallpaper? Because I totally got those. Way cool. Maybe a little gimmicky, but they're entertaining. I looked, and there don't appear to be anymore static wall papers.

As for more home screens: yeah, those got left out. However, if you want more home screens (and who doesn't?) you can download "Helix Launcher" from the market place. It's a "home" replacement for the stock Android's. With it, you can have up to 7 home screens. I've been using it for a while and have had no problems. It's a great app. I think it's much better than the stock program.

WOW, love the update. Didnt really care about the live wallpapers nor the extra home screens. WELL I DO NOW. I want a blank screen to run live wallpaper on. Also battery life is drastically improved.
Way to go MOTO, Verizon and Google

You got extra HOME SCREENS?

Please count and confirm.

The Good and the Bad

Manually updated Saturday. Gmail initially didn't sync but is now behaving. Perhaps the 10 minute battery pull helped, but I don't really know.

One cool thing I noticed that I haven't seen mentioned is that the camera now geotags photos. Was I just missing that before?

One bad thing is my battery life seems to have gotten shorter. Any clues why? Any suggestions. I had downloaded Google Earth (it is pretty cool) so I got rid of it just in case it was a cause of the problem. But the battery didn't even last half the day with little use.

I downloaded an app called Juice Defender from the market. It seems to have drastically increased my pattery life. I also use an app called auto memory manager. Between the 2 of them I've more than doubled my battery life over stock. Even running Chevy's 1.0 oc kernel.

Calm down there champ, verizon never promised us 5 homescreens. That was never mentioned once by them. If you took some time to read about the update before hand you would have realized what it all included. You can use helix launcher or something similar to get your extremely important extra screens. Helix works very well with the 2.1 update.
