Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Yes, I have been checking the phone updates. Nothin' as yet. (shows system as "up to date." Oddly, when I go to "settings/about phone" it shows firmware version as "2.1 update1." That can't possibly mean that 2.1 is already loaded - since when I bought the phone, it was 2.0.

Also, yes I have mapped out yahoo mail (IMAP), but it's not synced (as Outlook mail is). (No automatic notification or in-line editing features, etc.) Even with Outlook mail, I'm using touchdown so I'm hoping that 2.1 will provide a similar interface to Yahoo mail.

There's still some cut and paste issues with both mail platforms, but I'm learning to deal with them. :icon_eek:

Thanks for suggestions though. Appreciated.
that should mean you have it! find a empty homescreen spot and loong press...hit wallpapers..do you see live wallpapers?

Lol he should have it? No he definitely has it. If it says 2.1update1 you got it.

Yeah if it asys that firmware is 2.1-update1 then yeah that means you have it.

Well Merry Xmas to me... I swear to god, I did nothing to upload it.... (and that pinch screen function and wallpapers weren't there 3 days ago). Hmmm....

Looks like it's v2.1.

Now I'll try and figure out if there are any better ways to access Yahoo (other than IMAP).

Thx.... and duh...:p

I guess I just don't see all the hoop-la I don't really see anything I have gained? am I missing something big , there is no java, which I thought wqs going to be a big part of this update.
whats so great so I can know to?

yep sorry I meant flash, and they never promised but all over the forum it was assumed it would be there
thanks for reminding me, I really just want someting to show movind radar maps on NWS sites, which I think they use Java on the computer

Received my 2.1 update earlier today. Odd thing; It must have arrived while I was texting because all of a sudden the phone froze. Had to remove the battery to reboot and then got the notification.... LOL

OK, so I've had the update for a couple weeks now. I have noticed that my Droid is running much slower. What can be done to improve responsiveness & lagging?

thats odd...IMO it felt a little smoother than before but didnt feel increase in speed. also it consumes a little more battery life than before :icon_eek:

like some others I had lag after the update. More so with graphics... it was a little better without live wallpaper but not much. Anyway I'm at Verizon yesterday to get a new case. I'm joking with the guy behind the counter asking when update #2 is coming out to hopefully fix the lag problem. He asked to see my phone and was messing with some things.... he asked if I had ever rooted the phone and overclocked, or had I downloaded the upgrade rather than waited for the OTA. I said no, although I did both ...(was afraid of warranty issues)
Anyway he said they have run across some that have done so and wrecked I think he said the processor, others with the manual update did not get something(i forgot how he phrased it) that the OTA supplies to the phone. I asked what he could do for my phone because he agreed it was no where near as he stated "fluid movement" that the droid should have - They gave me a new phone :) The new phone had 2.01 and ran better with all my programs and faster than 2.1 on the old phone.
This morning I got the OTA.. have to say its very cool now... reminded me of the 1st day I tried droid mod. everything is faster and more "fluid now", I have no lag with all my programs.... running news widget, beautiful home widget and live wallpaper. Downloaded Helix and seven screens again!
The only problem I had was google earth was not showing up in the market, so i did a factory reset and all is well now

Is Verizon still rolling out 2.1? I ask only because I have not received any notification and I'm still running 2.0.1 (rooted).

You may not be getting the notification because of the rooting. You could go back to stock or do the upgrade manually. Rooting is much harder with 2.1, in fact you have to go back to 2.0.1 for the most part.

marko

Honestly I had 2.1 official and I went back to 2.0.1 the 2.1 update is laggy and has nothing new but pinch to zoom I have been running ultimate Droid 7.8 and it is way smoother so if u want official 2.1 update you have to unroot device go to settings about phone and check for update make sure your unrooted before u update to 2.1 or you'll ruin your device
