Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

All of you guys that have these random problems need to do a factory reset.

Did a hard factory reset lastnight, didnt install ANY aftermarket apps just to see if their was a difference......used the google maps navigator today and it lasted all of 5 minutes before it completely locked up my phone.

How does an "update" take a percetly stable no issue phone and turn it into a brick? If I cant use ALL the functions this phone comes with, it makes it false advertising and a real issue IMO.

All these "workarounds" of pulling batterys etc is unacceptable, more people need to stop settling and make more complaints to get things fixed properly.

for what its worth

google maps has been working fine since both the map update and 2.1. I've been using it for geocaching and navigating and no problems.

maybe something that was loaded on your phone at the time of the update conflicted with the update.

I've had only one minor problem since 2.1 rolled out and due to the fact it was with an after market app that updated at the same time, I can't blame it on 2.1 itself. As for Live Wallpaper... I really don't see any use what so ever for the feature. For crying out loud, it's a background that uses juice and as a constantly moving thing has he potential for causing some of the problems above. What I did do was use a dark Droid logo wall paper from Zedge and since them my battery seems to last a bit longer. Dark background, less light, less juice...DOH!!! Yes I did check out the live stuff, but it just didn't do a bloody thing for me.
If 2.1 is to blame by itself for many of the problems, I'd be tempted to reinstall it (if that is even possible). I took advantage of the manual upload and saved it to a memory stick just in case.

also anyone having problems with 2.1 gallery? my pics don''t show up in the gallery unless i restart the phone

This isn't fixed with a factory reset, is it? This is a gallery bug, right?

To fix the gallery you have to delete it, then do a factory reset and it will come back. It doesn't affect everyone, I didn't have to do this.

I'm not sure I'm even having a problem. Pictures seem to show up in the gallery if I give it a minute. Its just that I think it was instantaneous in the old gallery app. Do I need a factory reset? I don't know, but I won't do it just for this because 2.1 has been pretty great otherwise.

I must say I'm having absolutely zero problems since the 2.1 update. No force closes, no lock-ups. Nothing. I'm completely stock, and no live backgrounds. I WAS (before the 2.01 update) having a problem with occasionally not being able to turn the screen back on after going black. It would require a battery pull. But that issue cleared itself up LONG ago. And, since 2.1 I can even send Yahoo mail from my Droid for the fist time without getting thousands of copies in my "sent mail" folder. Horayyy!!!!

Anyway to run a Stock 2.1, but rooted? I really just enjoy wifi tether too much to not have a rooted phone, but would like the stability of not using a rooted 2.1 Rom.

I think the answer is NO. Still curious.

Technically by definition you cannot run Stock 2.1 rooted. Stock 2.1 as it was delivered by the OTA is *not* rooted.

That said, you *can* run a rooted version of stock 2.1 (ie: Pete's ESE81). You can also run a stock OTA 2.1 version of the baseband (Geaheard's). You can also run a 2.1 version of the kernel that supports overclocking and wifi tethering, or if you prefer the actual stock kernel and no overclocking, you can run Barnacle for wifi tethering.

Lots of choices.

I love all the upgrades we got with the 2.1 update and I'm glad we got what we did but at the risk of sounding ungrateful would it have killed them to add a few panels! I've got like a bazillion apps because I use my Droid constantly and for everything and call me spoiled but I hate going to the drawer for one of the apps that I use regularly not to mention that I have no room to use a single widgit!!! Oh well maybe next time... then after that I guess I can put my wish in for the moon.
