Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

The update file IS their update file. No difference whether you get it thu OTA, or you push it thru recovery.

You can wait, or get it now, no worries either way.

Do not use this file!

ever since I installed it I have been getting an error message, javaxnet.net.ssl.Exception:hostname in certificate does not match.

I am unable to run market place updates now.

be warned!
First I have heard of this issue, are you sure you did everything correctly?

First, can you install it incorrectly? Won't it just not install? Secondly, yes, I am fully confident that I followed the installation instructions provided by the source to the letter.

After all the wait, I find myself fairly unimpressed with the update. It makes me think it won't be too long before we see a 2.1update 2. Who knows though.

Lol! You people kill me. What did you expect from this update? 14 screens? Ability to run iPhone apps? Ability to turn the Droid into a Nexus TWO phone? Ability to run phone at overclock at 2.5ghz? You people are never satisfied.

If you ever rooted to get live wallpaper, pinch/zoom gallery/browser and everything else besides Glass Themes and Metamorph themes, then honestly what did you expect?

Be happy you got anything, and if not oh freekin' well!

no I didn't expect it cure cancer but not having more then 3 screens is joke, and the way your talking I'd think you were on Moto's payroll, but you're not which makes it more sad

Everything went smoothly and the install was a complete success. I have never rooted mostly because I was waiting for 2.1 to come out to see if it added enough functionality not to and for now am happy though the overclocking does sound exciting.

The only thing it "seems" that the applications menu scrolls kind of choppily now. I am not sure if it is just my imagination. I installed reset all my homepage shortcuts & widgets and restarted and still the same.

Do you have live wallpapers on when it's choppy? Because I noticed it's a little choppy with them on, but when they're off it's really smooth.

Yea, it's marginally smoother w/o the live wallpaper I'm not surprised in the least though that it is slower with them on. Still great update

No the only thing that is sad is that you need more than three screens standard! I guess just going to the menu is just too hard for people like you. I am quite happy with what i have. I did root in the past just to test it out and to be honest, it didn't do anything AMAZING that I absolutely needed. All I ever wanted was pinch/zoom browser. Everything else is just a plus.

Now I cant download from the market and my keys wont light up! Any ideas? Tried to download google earth but keeps saying unsuccessful. How do I fix this?

Even more sad is that we all pretty much knew what we were getting and what we weren't and still people are shocked and dissapointed.

What's more sad is the update is basically out yet there's still 744 people sitting in the thread. Complain about the update, then you get it, then you come right back in here and complain about the update lol

Anybody's Gmail giving them issues? I dunno if it's from the update or what but it seems to be really slow syncing...
I'm having similar trouble. The gmail app can't establish a connection and the regular email app constantly force closes after 2.1

Okay, I got it to reboot.
Initial thoughts are the phone is snappier (imagination or real?), the camera seems MUCH faster, the gallery is gorgeous.

On the downside, live wallpapers aren't worth the performance hit (which I expected), but I'm very surprised that the desktop doesn't rotate in landscape mode! I don't know why I expected this, but it seems insane that it still doesn't.

You want to know what's funny? Last week, I went to the VZW store where I first purchased my Droid to swap it out for one that actually works. They shipped another one and I just received it last night. While trying to switch out the battery from the old one, it booted before I could (I was driving). A big box like icon was on the main screen with an arrow pointing down, as if to install an update.

Just my luck, I get the update but it was on the bad droid. Of course when I booted up the replacement one, no update.
