Force update worked great for me, thanks to everyone that made it possible. Update is looking good from my end...if you want more home screens go to the Market and download Helix...you can have up to 7 and it works GREAT with 2.1. Back to "work" now...
Just an FYI for anyone who applies the update and gets in a loop.
I applied and sat through 2 minute loops of the "DROID" and the EYE. It went on forever, back and forth for a good 20 minutes.
I resolved the issue by doing a factory reset, I wiped everything and it seemed to work.
Everything went smoothly and the install was a complete success. I have never rooted mostly because I was waiting for 2.1 to come out to see if it added enough functionality not to and for now am happy though the overclocking does sound exciting.
The only thing it "seems" that the applications menu scrolls kind of choppily now. I am not sure if it is just my imagination. I installed reset all my homepage shortcuts & widgets and restarted and still the same.
If you're really having a problem, try wiping everything with a factory reset and reinstall the update. Google servers save your contacts and gmail, the market saves your apps (download page in market shows everything you've downloaded). Only thing you'll lose is your text/mms and settings. Everything else is on your sd card and goes untouched.
There are ways to save you text/mms too but that will require an app to do it. Even without the market it's still possible install the necessary app if you really want to save them too.
I'm considering just doing this for a fresh start when my OTA update comes. Will settings for apps be stored on the SDCard too, or will I lose those? I'm thinking like game stats, helix screens and stuff like that. Anything else I should back up? What about Swype? I'm in the beta program - will that reinstall OK?
Just wanted to say thank you to all of the people out there that posted the update.zip, the tips and instructions on installing - worked perfectly! I've had my Droid since day 1 and have loved every minute of owning this phone.
And I don't know this is just a weird Market bug, but if for nothing else, the 2.1 update is the greatest thing in the world because I no longer see the damn Verizon Visual Voicemail "update available" option as the very first item in my downloads list anymore. In fact, it doesn't show up in my downloads AT ALL.
Oh and the live wallpapers, pinch to zoom, 3D gallery and other features are nice too.
It's hilarious to see all the negative posts about the update. I'm 99% sure that the same people complaining about the "lack of features" on this update, are also the people complaining on how the update kept being delayed.
Hmmm now K-9 is blinking but I had it in the Dock before... wonder if it's a bug. Out of dock it notifies out, in dock it doesnt. (even after you take it out)
Starting to freak out. I just did the manual 2.1 install per the instructions.
Rebooted, and the blinking Droid eye has been on the screen for about 2 minutes now!
How long should it take to reboot?
