Battery drains fast!

What I think seems funny is that I let it drain until it shut off. Yet I can still turn it on over and over again and get back to the lock screen before it shuts off again. You'd think bootup would use some battery. I think battery drain is a lie, and it only turns off because the indicator tells it to. :)

That's because completely draining your battery is bad for it. So yes, there will still be some juice left once it shuts off.

Dont. Ever. Do. That. If youre unlucky, you'll drain the battery so much that it's ineternal safety circuit may open.
"If you discharge lithium ion batteries to zero voltage, the internal safety circuit may open. In that case, a normal charger will be inadequate."
How do you treat a cell phone battery for longevity? Keep it charged? Charge when dead? What?
Your battery should be at 80-20% for it to survive the longest. No bumpcharging, no extreme drainage. Trickle charging is by far the best. Instead of charging it fully, empty it fully THEN charging it fully again. Not good for longetivity.

Yea if I let my phone stay on standby for 5h then use the phone for ~10min my screen is up at the highest % use straight away :s feels like I could have my phone on standby forever...but as soon as i turn the screen on its "bye bye battery" x) Also im the one with the black themes and almost 0 brightness on the screen..and its still like this x)
Dont expect the screen to get any less draining...so i bought a couple of 1950mAh batteries..

Agreed and agreed.

That's hysterical. I'm reading all these recommendations about turning all the antennae off, have a black wallpaper, etc.. So stupid.

The fact this is so prevalent means it's the way it supposed to be. There is no way this got past the Google developers. I have to carry around 3 extended batteries if I want to use the thing.

That's a bit ridiculous. And not true, at least in my case. I'm getting about 4 hours screen on time per charge. That's plenty to get me through a typical workday. I just got the one extra battery and I barely use it as is.

Fact is that we users that complain want to use the phone MORE than its intended to be used. its not supose to be used through out the day..You're not supose to be browsing the web for ~3h a day while you sit on the train (for me its 1.5h there and 1.5h back). The the phone is made for the average user.

We (the ones on this site) are not average users. Or else we wouldnt be on this site. There by we have to sacrifice something to get more batterylife for extended screen time. There off we take desperate messures like black wallpapers and antenna off during standby. Easy as that.

Do you really have connection issues? Im hoping you're refering to Verizon Galaxy Nexus signal problem fix coming, meter being changed | The Verge with the "awful service" on the phone.

If so, Do any of you guys get bad service during calls, texts, downloads? or is it just the bars dropping..because ive seen my phone having 0 bars..and still manage to call, send mms, send texts AND download at normal speeds for 3g on a 3g net...

And if this is the case, Who cares if you show 0 bars when you have a connection that works? Its not an Iphone 4 where the call wont even go through or cuts of because "you're holding it wrong"...
Signal algorithms are hard...give google a break for playing safe...better to show one less than one too many Id say.

On topic;
this is what I got today with just browsing, having screen on about 5% (yes 5 if not less..its almost at the left corner of the check-box). Did some "medium+"(wouldnt say heavy..) texting and some browsing..
Im with some of you other guys here, Using cpu at 100% in the background or having some apps working background while the phone is on standby is less of a drainage than have the screen turned on and doing nothing..
Also, I use a TOTALLY black background and pitch black background during texting.

Also notice it drained a lot faster than i thought..so I had to use airplanemode and even shut it down for a while since I didnt know when id get home and I had to use the phone to make a call x)

I used x2 battery during the entire day. It saved me about ~1h..maybe more..if you believe it x)

Sorry for the delayed response, I got lost in all these posts. I just found out that Verizon has been having problems with the service on the 4G network so I'm not the only one. I guess there was a two day outage? My bars were all gone, couldn't connect to the internet, couldn't make phone calls, sent texts, etc. Regardless...because of so many other strange issues I was having, I got a new phone. I went through 3 battery covers because they kept not fitting correctly. (standard battery)

Quite possible but an average user will commute on a train (to use your analogy) 60 minutes. That's probably a 50% battery loss if used that entire time. Text, listen to music, games, email, etc... If they don't even use the phone for 8 hours they are going to lose another 10-20%. Therefore they can't make it home let alone use it at home un-tethered. That's not acceptable.

The XDA boys found a problem in the Kernel but they also found the signal problem and Google/VZW blew that one off.

Living with a battery in my pocket all the time is tough to swallow.

I agree with you and i think the revolution is not needed for the operating system nor the screen. Its the battery thats too small..for my old phone there was a 800mAh battery, and that phone lasted me a few days easy..
There are some great options for batteries, problem is they are still too expensive since they dont get manufactured in that volume they are needed..which is truly sad....maybe we'll get some good news soon? who knows..but yes as it is now..you cant use the iphone 4s nor the galaxy nexus too its full potential..because of battery life..and thats just sad..

google/vzw probably knew about the problem and are working on it, fixing problems is what google does best imo :p

Yep I saw the commercial that said just that. Also don't use it as a hot spot for long. Thanks for telling us how we are supposed to use our phone. I know I appreciate it

I hade to find it out the hard way x)

I charged mine at night BEFORE retiring since it didn't get a whole day out of it. Went to bed on 100% wake up to 50% drain WITHOUT EVEN USING IT!

As noted, there are some phones that have a problem with the Android OS and the "Keep Awake" time. In stock form and with every rom (except one) that I have installed, my "Keep Awake" time was always about 50-60% of my total battery time. If the phone had been off charger for 8 hours, I'd have 4-6 hours of Andorid OS "Keep Awake" time. This was true even if the phone had been in my pocket unused.

This rom specifically addresses the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1402350 This is from post #1: "screen off (by user) timeout override -> by default android only uses a timeout when the screen times out by itself. this lets you force android to use the same timeout for when you turn the screen off yourself"

This has dramatically reduced my Keep Awake times and has helped my battery usage. YMMV

Good luck.
