Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

Been running this update for about a day now and haven't seen the dreaded "Searching for Service" message once yet. I hope my connectivity issues are finally fixed!

I would agree that it seems to have helped, but stepped back with the battery. I'm 4 hours on battery right now, and the android os has used 28% of it so far. Still at 80% battery on the extended, so not complaining so to speak, but it's not what it used to be.

I had installed the WebTop mod and 901 would not install. I did a restore using cwm, and and then 901 installed without the hitch. So far so good.

Hmmm..when I downloaded it onto my mac from the DL mirror link, it was already unzipped...

Did you select open or save as when downloading it from the web browser?

Btw I love Mac computers. not their ios devices though.

It didn't give me an option when downloading from Safari. I found the solution, though: Safari>preferences>uncheck box that says "open safe files" or something like that. This prevents OSX from automatically unzipping the .zip file.

In other news, I updated successfully to .901 and have retained root.

So basically if you are shock, was never rooted, and have the 5.5.893 which came OTA, you could install 901 without problems and still be on the OTA update track?

You should give Google Chrome a try. Works much better on my iMac than safari.

No one can tell you with 100% certainty but the update was pushed to me and I only installed it after VZW Support told me to. I have it in writing so they can't deny it.

I must be doing something wrong. When I try and dwnld 901 from the link in this thread at DROID-life I get an error message.

If 901 did take me off the update path Verizon will either have to give me new phone or I will drop them. I don't believe that it did though.

Moto is kind of ridiculous with the encrypted bootloader thing. Stop being so uptight Moto! I am convinced they do this to boobietrap the rooting community. I like a lot of their products but it's hard to have brand loyalty to moto if they are constantly trying to teach me a lesson for rooting my phone.

I believe the problem is more with Verizon at this point and them not wanting modded devices on their network. Didn't motorola release the razr with an unlocked bootloader in Europe?

With the extended battery on 5.7.893 I was regularly getting 30+ hours on light usage, and 15 hours on extremely heavy use.

Now on 5.9.901 after reverting to stock including kernel, so I'll have some data about battery usage here in a couple of days
