Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

This is the standard battery.

I upgraded from stock to 901 last night while shopping at the mall. I've been argued with data drops that lasted until airplane mode toggled since I got the phone, and I live in a great 4G area, at least in theory (Baltimore Washington).

My Bionic has been a huge disappointment over my DX in two areas, the data drops, and the battery.

Well, after 24 hours of use, it's like a new phone. I've eyeballed what I think were 2 drops, but it cycled so aggressively that data was back in less than 10 seconds. Just awesome!

Battery still bugs, but for me the test us simple -- I stream audio (Tune In, Pandora, Slacker, Mog, etc) non stop, all day.

That's just tough.

Still, I suspect Moto has done an awesome job dealing with a collection of oddments in Verizon's simcard-based infrastructure.

Dude at the Verizon store said every 4G phone they have is driving people crazy with data drops. FWIW.

Where did you get the upgrade to 901? OTA? The Verizon store? This site?

Click the mirror hyperlink from Droid life. I updated, so far it works to par with 893 nothing different besides the new spam apps.

I got it from the link further up in the thread. Downloaded, copied it appropriately, applied it.

Felt somewhat cowboy, doing it while walking the mall with my family, but hey, wth.

I have to admit, the slipped update file finished off what the last update did not fix. While I'm on my fifth bionic, hdmi audio issue, I finally am impressed with this phone. Battery life is amazing now and I don't suffer any data drops, the WiFi to 3g transition is almost flawless now and apps no longer just vanish. I think this phone will last the two years now.

"But WHY THE RUM?!!"

In the mall. Too cool!

I was trying to fall asleep last night and decided to try updating. So I was lying in bed and I downloaded the file, copied it, applied the forever root, backed up with cwm, booted to recovery, and installed the update. 901 is running very well.

Could you tell me where you downloaded it from? Thx.

I was the first one that got the OTA 5.5.893. I also reflashed back to 5.5.886 right after to see if I would get the OTA again to help the dev community (I did not) but kept the radio and kernal. I then flashed Th3orys Kin3tx and even though it said I was on 5.8.893 I still had 5.5.893 radio and kernal.
Just went back to 5.5.886, rooted and forever rooted. Flashed 5.5.893 then just flashed 5.9.901 (that was all nerve racking) hoping it would all go through. Didnt have one hiccup at all. Kept root during the whole process.
Now just to put everything back where I had it (which is the longest part of all this flashing). I will miss the ROM though as I hate having all this bloat.
The testing begins as I have data drops non stop. Crossing my fingers

UPDATE: its been a few hours now and I finally got everything back where they belong. So far this thing feels smooth. Transition between wifi and 3g is smooth as silk (no 4g here). I can continually cycle between the two and its switches fast as h3ll. Havent had a data drop yet which normally I would of had a few already. I'll give it a day and see what happens.
I do miss my bloat free rom though:frown: Anyone know of an app that has the toggles (bluetooth, airplane and such) in the notification area?
Also, I have the FM Radio apk but cant remember how to install it, any help here? thanks

Widgetsoid for toggles and if you're rooted drop it in system/app set owner root user root

Also I just had someone confirm that pulling the ril libs from 901 /system/lib and dropping into ICS4BIONIC gives working data so should work with any custom ROM

No wonder I love your ROM's LOL
One quick question? I found the widgetoid right before you posted and already installed it, now I cant get it off so I can do what you listed. Any suggestions? nevermind, just uninstalled it.

How do I drop it in system/app and do what the other stuff? thanks (still new to all this but learning fast):hail: ps yes I'm rooted

This is great news.... Get to 5.5.893 OTA from ANY LEAK - RootzWiki

Also with any custom rom or any upgrade (if rooted) i would always reset battery in the cwr. Just my 2cents. Seems to work great in making battery life even better :)

If what Dhacker says about 901 librarys with with ICS4bionic then that is awesome news and i always believe what dhacker states!
