Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

Speaking of Bluetooth, like the OTA update we got a couple of weeks ago I lost my BT connection with my car. It did get restored quickly, but still lost it. This time, however, my ringtone didn't go to default, but stayed my custom.

Let me make sure I understand what you are saying. Were you connected, on a phone call or streaming music and you lost connection? Or did your bionic forget the pairing information?

The built-in BT in my car failed to connect with the phone. When I start the car it normally gives me a successful connection notification. If the phone is either off or gets an update (apparently) it says the connection was unsuccessful. I did what I did with the last update; I went into the car's phone settings to add a phone. Since the Bionic was in memory it took a couple of button presses to reconnect. On the Bionic it said "Paired, but not connected." That may not happen with other BT.

It's fine now, so that's the bottom line.

Was on the phone with vz tech support today about my loss of 3g/4g over the last few days. Basically since the last ota as well as the phone not coming back out from sleep mode. The tech assumed I was on .901. He was suprised when I told him I did not have it yet. Then told me that that ota is being rolled out now in waves and I should get it within the next week and it should fix my problems

Thats encouraging. Did they tell u if those of us who are running 5.7. Will get it over the air? I would like to do it manually but am afraid of screwing something up. Im just not confident that i can get back to stock.

Well I bit the bullet and did the install. A scary 6 minutes, but it installed successfully.

We'll see if it works.

Same here, just installed it! My data loss was so much worse after .893 I just couldn't take it anymore. I was rooted and still have root. I also realized during the install that I forgot to unfreeze all the system apps I froze in TiBu, but luckily it didn't affect the install at all.

It's a couple of hours since I last posted and I still have not lost data. I have not noticed any difference in battery life but that was never an issue with me.

Data drops again today on 901.

I think it's time for me just to accept that a baseband update won't fix this for me. The only way for it to be fixed is for vzw to expand LTE coverage where I live. I am literally at the edge of their LTE cover here. According to their coverage map walking a few steps from the house will take me out of it.

Hopefully they'll expand LTE in Lansing again and I'll be deeper in, and the data drops will stop.

Considering your description of your coverage area I would say you are right. Does flipping it into CDMA mode only help you? I know that isn't the best solution but at least it will keep you sane.

I am surprised that the 901 had not helped everyone with their signal issues. The last update made a huge difference for me even with WiFi handoff. Maybe the issue is more hardware than software for you.

"But WHY THE RUM?!!"

It most likely would.

The reason why I wouldn't want to do it is because of the LTE speeds. Even in a fringe area I can get 5-10mbps. On EVDO I'm lucky if I get 500kbps. Though, my brother was over, and after seeing how super slow his EVDO speeds were on his Epic Touch (Sprint) I guess I could be thankful.

TBH, if I was to tell vzw about it I'm sure they would tell me it's because of that.

I'm just LTE spoiled lol :p

im in omaha, NE and have not gotten this upgrayedd yet. still on 893. i get a check for update is not available at this time when i check for updates :frown:

They only pushed this update to a few phones and by accident. You have to manually flash to .901 now.

I am personally not confident enough to do this. I'm on 5.7 and unsure how to get back to stock so i can install 5.9.901. Anyone know if there is a tutorial video on how to do it.

It is not a bionic software or hardware problem. Time for people to accept that this is a brand new and ever expanding network...and it has kinks. They will work it out. Trust me.
