Downgrade to 902 - No app or data loss

I plan on looking into the 6.14 issues when I get a chance. I find it hard to believe it's completely broken. Could just be my version of it. We'll see what happens. For now everyone should stick with 5.7 as it's known to work.

Ok, I want to get this off my back... From the first post.

o) Designed as automation for those that know the manual processes

When I saw that I went looking for the "manual processes". I googled for days and I was no closer to understanding the manual process than I am now. I posted in another thread that I wanted a detailed understanding and posted a few question. SamuriHL gladly provided those answers. But to be honest, I never saw a manual process for this anywhere. When I saw the above comment I assumed that there was a thread out there that would walk you through the manual process with a detailed explanation for what exactly you were doing. While I have a vague understanding of what I did using the HoB I could NEVER have done the upgrading without the HoB.

So is that bullet meant to scare the poopy out of me into not doing it or am I really supposed to know and understand the manual process and I got lucky and circumvented the knowledge I should have gained before I started? Even after using your HoB I'm not sure I could have done the same thing manually, nor could I explain it any better now than yesterday. (This is why I was looking for a Youtube video before. I like to see someone else do it correctly before I give it a try.)

I'm not trying to remanufacture a good thing. I'm confused on that bullet because I used HoB without knowing the manual process(either sheer luck, stupidity, or both). I've spent so much time trying to find the manual process that finally I gave up and decided just to give it a go and see how badly things would go. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think I knew all I needed to know since the RSD process broke my phone, but I knew exactly how to fix it also.

Hopefully this doesn't sound like I'm criticizing HoB. I'm more of critical of myself and trying to understand if I'm being too critical, too cautious, or the bullet doesn't have the hidden meaning I think it does.

Edit: Sidenote: I did figure out last night that I HAD to run the batch file from a command prompt with non-adminstrator rights. Double-clicking the .bat file never worked right(RSD wouldn't execute), and right clicking and giving admin permissions didn't work either(246 wouldn't appear on the list of options. Is this normal on Win 7 x64? I thought it was odd that I never saw anyone complain of the same issue I have...

There is no thread that's going to teach everything. I've detailed it in this thread many times before. The reason that warning is there is for the cases where things go wrong and I say "do this step manually". I don't want people sitting there going "HUH? I don't know how." Nonetheless, if you can read and follow directions, then the HoB will do what it's supposed to whether you understand the underpinnings or not. And as I've said NUMEROUS times before, there's nothing stopping you from opening up the script in a text editor and looking through it to see what it does. I encourage this. The RSD scripts in the rsd_scripts folder do the actual work of preparing the phone for installing the update. At the fun risk of repeating this another 200 times, the process isn't difficult.

o) We get a new update...
o) We create a boot.img for it by extracting a few things from the zip file and patching the 905 boot.img just as the update would do when it installs on 905
o) When ready to install the update, we push it to the sdcard-ext
o) Reboot into AP Fastboot
o) We copy stuff into the 905_FXZ directory (in this case, boot.img and the HouseOfBionic script we're flashing)
o) We flash the script with RSD
o) You manually reboot into recovery, install the update, wipe the cache, reboot
o) Optionally apply root

The manual flashing steps ARE detailed in the House Of Bionic FAQ. Look for the linux/mac commands. That's all it's doing. Flashing system, preinstall, and webtop from 905, and boot.img from your update. Then you're prepped to install the update in recovery.

That's what I did when I hit a snag this morning. Opened up the bat file and looked around.

It is very well formatted and readable (which is saying something with batch files...) - - Nice job, Samuri.

I recommend Notepad++ for this kind of review--very helpful syntax highlighting.

People underestimate batch files. They can be extremely powerful. The trick, as you noted, is to make it readable. I'm a software engineer so I break things down by function. It's a dying art form in this day of python, ruby, etc.

Hey Sam,

You have thrown it out there in jest several times but what is the external battery charger link that you have posted. I got stuck for the last time on a flight with a dead battery. This time got my into a deep discharge that I needed an external charger to fix. Time to carry extra power in the backpack...:icon_rolleyes:

The only reason you beat me was cause I was busy finding links. ;) BTW, you see their new adapters rather than full cables? I grabbed 2 last night for myself. Handy to throw in the bag.
