Droid Bionic? Maybe not...

I've been too busy stalking the bionic and GS2 info to do a lot of investigating on the d3. I just keep hoping that all of the delays are because they want to put out a world class item. That there doesn't seem to be any improvement between the x2 and d3 in the hardware department could be troublesome (but let's hope it's not).

D3 and dx2 are not even close to each other. The d3 smokes the dx2. The d3 will have more in common with the bionic (same chipset, though bionic might be clocked higher)

As for the camera, its a simple software fix. The white balance is non-existent on the stock camera. If you grab a 3rd party camera app, and have white balance adjusted for flourescent light, problem fixed. You can check my gallery for an example (or look at the Camera [ix thread in the d3 forum)

I still don't know how people can like the samsung screens, the colors are beyond horrible.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear that I was talking about the camera and video.
I've had the D1 just about since the beginning and through tech support, modified or not, with or without a lot of apps installed, the stuttering and choppiness of the video has driven me crazy. As my signature says, I had the X2 for a while and while the video is better, it's not world beating in the cell world. Check out the link I posted a page or so back. It will be very apparent why I would accept the admittedly sometimes over-saturated colors of the samsung over the kind of artificial digital quality of motorola pix. That thread shows everything from sweeping landscapes to macro shots of a bee in flight to zoom photos that still impress. Motorola has never offered anything with that level of detail.

I am only because I've read the problems they were having with the bionic & why they had to redo it. I got the ThunderBolt when it was released (after a 6 month stall because of problems with the phone) and let me tell you that phone was not worth the hassle. As much as I would love to have the bionic, I'm not going through that again with any phone! I have an upgrade in late December & if the bionic is ok I might get it then, but they always put out new phones at the end of the year too so we'll see.

if i were you, i wouldn't be scared off by the problems that plagued the CES Bionic (codename Etna). the "Bionic" they are now releasing is a completely different device (codename Targa) that has been in development since the latter part of 2010. since Moto had to scrap the Etna, they decided to just assign the Bionic name to the Targa. this may be blind faith, but i think the Targa/Bionic will be a solid device.

the things making me wary of the Bionic: the possibility of the Nexus Prime being released in Oct; the Bionic rumored to be underclocked to 1 ghz; the pentile screen; whether the bootloader will receive an unlock update relatively soon after release.

Dark,

Thanks. I was aware of the white balance issue and "fix". And that was my point, sort of. When I saw what was going on with the D3 and pic's my first thought was that if Moto did not have a clue enough to include white balancing, then where else would I expect to see/find issues. Lighting control should be a no brainer for software. Kinda like we have this wonderful high resolution (megapix) lense, but aren't smart enough to even include basic controls. Left me doing some serious head scratching.

Personally, I am skeptical about a phone that has no release date... that tells me whatever issues plaguing it are not worked out and the moto engineers cannot guarantee when. I may be wrong, and Moto may just be jacking with us about the release date, but they are giving ME at least, the impression they don't have their **** together with the Bionic.

Samsung on the other hand, is giving every impression they have their **** together with their phones, and if they beat Moto to the punch on their release date, Moto will be in serious trouble of capturing any market, especially when the iPhone sheeple get their ip5.

By then, if Moto is still asking $300 for a phone that still doesn't sound like it's working correctly enough to be released, they they need their head examined.

Doesn't look good for the Bionic at all.

Um hello!!! Back to reality here. Have u even messed with the charge at all? That phone could be one of the worse designed and stable phone I've tested lately. My D1 performs better than the charge did. The only good thong about the charge was the shape, screen, and the speed of the 4g when it worked. The performance of that phone was awful.

I wouldn't go so far to say "awful," but I do agree that it wasn't great. Not great at all...

I wasn't referring to the Charge so much as the Galaxy SII... it's outsold Apple's iPhones lately from what I've read... so either millions of people are wrong and you are right, or... maybe you're wrong? ;)

I dunno... sorry if I go with the numbers and think the Galaxy SII provides users with a very nice user experience and just works. If it has 4G when it hits the US, then the Bionic had better have some very compelling reasons for me to buy it instead of the Galaxy SII.

So I went to a different Verizon store today looking to get some info on the bionic. The first two people that came up to me were clueless and figured I would just leave when this young employee came up and asked if I needed some help. Well after I told him I was waiting on the bionic trying to get some info, it got interesting. He was big into forums and keeping up with everything like us. At this point Im really excited because i had never met a verizon employee like this. I brought up locked bootloader and his eyes lit up. He pulls out his D1 and shows me it's rooted and overclocked and all that jazz. Then when I mentioned how the gs2 was coming to verizon he told me his friend payed a thousand for one and he got to mess with it a while. He said it was bad a**.
So then he says come over to my computer and let's see if we can find anything on the bionic. He types in the xt875 and it pops up the droid bionic. He was surprised and said that was new and he had just checked the day before. He told me that is usually a good indication that its close. I said close one month or close one week and he said somewhere in between.
I asked about training and he said that they would not have a training period because it was like all the other droids in the way they operated. He also said they would get the phones three days before they go on sale.
He had seen everything that we have as far as the leaked documents and everything. He told me that they should get a jump on selling them before the others by a week or two.
He was a breath of fresh air and a really cool cat. He gave me his card and told me to email him and he would let me know when he hears something concrete.

One of the few Verizon Reps with brains :)

Yeah you know it's sad they just don't take pride in their work. I bet if they would just visit Droid Forums and Droid Life a little every other day their personal sells would go up. I've sold phones for them and I was just in there looking for a phone.
Also, the rep had saw the "coming soon" droid sign we all know about and he has yet to get it in his store.
Bottom line is this is the phone for me and when it goes on preorder I will pay the $569 + tax out of contract for this phone and be perfectly happy for at least a year. I gave my early upgrade to my wife to get her locked in.her upgrade is in Dec. I got her the Thunderbolt a month ago and it has worked really well. I still have my D1 which happened to start showing its age the day after my wife got my upgrade. I might have to do a factory reset any day now but I have faith in her. And I will have faith in the Bionic.

Something that always ticks me off is how the US gets what seem like afterthought phones. I said on another thread that Samsung could have easily released the charge with an 800 or 900 mghz dual core that would have kicked the crap out of anything currently at vzw and not hurt the release of the GSII (which would have represented at minimum a 33% bump in processor). When I played with it, I found the charge (with lot's of remaining memory) to be very slow. :icon_evil:

Thanks for heading over and getting some info man. I agree I really hate going into the stores and I am the one who knows the most about all the phones....not any employees....Maybe I should apply for a job at Verizon and kick the crap out of everyone elses sales

I haven't been to a single Verizon store where any of the sales guys really know anything about their phones and I have been with Verizon for 14 years. Now I can say they are very nice and friendly but lack phone knowledge.
