Droid Price Cuts

I've been due for an upgrade on my line since 2008 . I bought my original enV back in 2006 and honestly didn't feel the need to replace it until this past summer when I bought a used enV Touch and activated it.

So now it has come the time to use my upgrade and I've decided (take a guess lol) on the Moto Droid :). I noticed the price is currently $199 but I was thinking I could hold out a bit for the price to drop down a bit. Though I'm wondering if they are planning a sale anytime soon. I plan to buy it online via the Verizon website. Any insight? I'm not really cheap, but I hate to shell out $200 when the price might drop by $50 in the next month or so.

Can anyone else shed some light on upgrade deals? I'm on a family plan so I'm not sure if the wirefly route will work. The local verizon store and verizon retailers I've been too aren't staffed by the most helpful people in the world.

Someone posted about Amazon.com having a pretty good deal, although I am not sure if is upgrade or new 2 yr pricing!

amazon.com and androidcentral.com both have right over $100 for the droid..

Thanks for the replies but tbh I'm not comfortable upgrading through an online source. I've read horror stories of nuances that will result in a full retail price charge down the road. The Amazon is only new 2-yr or I'd be all over that.

I think I will try to get BB to price match a local Costco or Sears deal. Anyone have luck price matching online retailers (other than Dell)?

I went through BB and made a great deal. Depending on where you go they might tell you they can only price match on a local retailer. So I took a copy of Dell, Wirefly, and Sears.. Granted they are all ultimately wirefly, but the sears one I was able to battle it out and get price match. Got the phone started at $150. Then he offered me 4 accessories for another $50. So I bought them. Spent $200 that day. Next day went back returned all the accessories for full retail of almost $100 and got Droid in the end right over $50.

Thanks I read your post earlier in the thread but wasn't sure if it was on a new contract or actually upgrading. I guess I could settle for dropping $150. I don't think my scruples would let me return something for more than I originally paid, haha. Your math doesn't add up, btw, it would be right over $100 at the end.

It was on an upgrade to my existing line. In fact I was able to upgrade and change number. Online retailer will charge you full cost if you change your number before 180 days. Originally had NC number, but BB had access to Verizon to change to a FL line too, so yeah def the best bet. I am one that would normally preach to stay away from retailers all together, but i collapsed for once on BB and got to say it was almost easier then going to the Verizon store.. Plus you are not tied into the "hidden" contracts that online retailers have you with.

No matter how you do it, good luck and welcome to the Droid world. Nexus One is nice, but once we finally get the now famed 2.1 it is level ground. I rooted and had 2.1 so I can tell you Droid is def the better route in the end.. and sorry about math. I am about 3 muscle relaxers in right now and a little off in my head. (injured in accident not to long ago, so anywho...) Hope all works out for you

If you are upgrade-eligible, Wirefly can handle but if you are only upgrading some of the lines then you need to call them to place your order.

I know theres a lot of options to a cheaper droid then the buck ninty nine listed on verizons site... Here's another option..

Went to www.bigcrumbs.com and searched for letstalk.com there's a link for $72 refund on the purchase of a phone...

Once on www.letstalk.com I added the droid for $109.99 to my cart... Found a $25 coupon code on www.retailmenot.com

Amount on my card $84.99 (shipped for free). In March I will have a refund of $72 placed into my paypal account.

In the end got my droid for $12.99

Hmm... I'd never heard of BigCrumbs. How do you get your cash? FYI it looks like the $72.00 is only valid for family plan orders.

I'm stand corrected I posted the wrong rebate. I will get $67.50 back. Not $72. So making is $15 roughly.

I just did a google search for the bigcrumbs site. Never used it before but it wasn't full of scam reviews so figured I'd try it.

There are a lot of other sites that run off referals. Bing, etc. So just was saying to look before buying.

Hi, I just called my local Best Buy, they said they will price match Wirefly for me, so in theory I can go pick up my phone for the 119.99 at the Best Buy store, which is what I wanted to do because I want their insurance anyway. Maybe you guys could try that.

I'm glad I held off for a while. Amazon now has an upgrade option on their $109.00 deal. If you're on a family plan they will not change anything that applies to all phones on the plan (such as unlimited texting, etc.) You can also purchase insurance through them. It was free 2-day shipping (although I have Prime so that doesn't matter) and free activation.

I was hesitant buying from anywhere online but Amazon provided some relief to my concerns. The only downside is that there is an extra $250 ETF for the first 181 days, which I doubt is a concern for most Verizon customers who are extending their contracts anyways. Looking forward to getting my phone tomorrow.

Wireless advocates aka the cell phone kiosk inside Costco has once again cut the price of the droid for new customers today it is n$129.99 instant price with a free carcharger and free activation. $179.99 for an upgrade instantly with the free carcharger.

I got an upgrade invitation from Verizon for my second line at $149.99. I believe it's good through the middle of March. Hopefully I'll get a commission check before then and will be able to snatch one up. I'm ready to toss my Blackberry down the garbage disposal.
