LOL, as a guy who doesn't post here, and just comes for news/info: I rooted last month, and shortly there after tried every ROM i could find. cyanogen was the second one. I tried UD for about 10 min and went directly back to CM, so it makes sense that UD10 would be based of CM, its way better. Anyway I forgot my point really. Ohh yea also the 2 problems i have had, I posted about, and koush directly responded to me with the solution, I dont know what you guys are talking about. You heard it here first from an impartial user. CM dominates.

You didn't answer my question.

There is no "coypright" in this situation. That is why its so hard to understand and the choices that have been handed down are liked by some but disliked by many more.

Somebody should run a poll:

Should Blackdroid stay:
Should Blackdroid go:

I am not going to do it but it would be interesting numbers. (not to mention the decision has been made and won't change)

So to cut to the chase, I just want people to say what rules/license agreements were broken.

Was it only etiquette that was breached?

Exactly, what rule/license was broken?

(you will never get an answer in all likelyhood)

I've had code stolen before not particularly in the android scene (people i work around are great!). Your opinion is your opinion i'm just trying to understand how someone considers stealing someone elses work is okay? That's all.

If you notice, the ones that have no problem stealing code are all BD's fans. He has quite the power of convincing people, including his "developers," that he did not steal and he made it all himself.

Its not worth fighting with them, soon BD will be gone and they shall follow to ruin another forum.

ohh nooo BD's in my brain...g.g....r.r.a..r..

BD didnt' steal anything...it was an accident, I, i mean he, left an stupid .xml file....too many windows opened on my screen......cut copy....no no...build...spreadsheet does not exist...I built it all...

Someone has plans to build a doghouse. Someone has the same plans to build the same doghouse. The "plans" come from "open source" so anyone can use them. One person builds it plain and another adds heat/air conditioning. But both start from the same plan? (google source code)
What is the difference?

Taking someone else's idea (or work) is what is done every minute of the day in the world. Thats how development works and gets better.

Isn't this more like waiting for your neighbor to build the doghouse, going over there during the night, stealing it, repainting it and calling it your own?

Srt you are a fool if you keep being in denial about your boy BD. If he would have manned up and said hey I f'd up instead of being in denial and taking so long to say somthing things prob would have ended differently. The silence from him spoke volumes. If I had all these accusations being tossed around about me I would be fighting tooth and nail to clear my name and post proof, but no the dude dissappeared and took 2 days to give a bs statement. And for those who keep saying 9.8 ran smoothly and there was no outcry about that, its because it was based on the work of either chevyno1 or pete, that's why it ran so great. They just chose not to say anything, all BD did was theme it and call it his.

And where is your proof of this? Seriously, where is it?

Not if both doghouses are prebuilt or you and your neighbor have identical part to build with

Hmm....

Well a good note, users may for the time being, still get UD via RM if they wish.

On a bad note (in my opinion) they who are running RM are still carrying all this drama out, this time it is being done via RM so we have to still see it happening.. :(

Goto your ROM Manager>DL ROM, in that section will be Ultimate Droid.

Ultimate Droid
Another CyanogenMod based theme! Hell hath no fury like a thousand geeks scorned.

My personal opinion, (not in support of either dev) it is highly immature and unprofessional to do as is being done and keep feeding the drama, keep seeing who can piss the furthest in this manner. There is no sense at all, nor does it serve any purpose to keep flogging a dead horse.

So once I actually compile cyanogen's source code into a rom it is my own?

Yes your right again :icon_ banana::icon_ banana:
So if I compile the code without any changes, it would be mine. How would that effect the MD5 calculations?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search
md5sum is a computer program that calculates and verifies 128-bit MD5 hashes, as described in RFC 1321

. The MD5 hash (or checksum) functions as a compact digital fingerprint of a file. It is extremely unlikely that any two non-identical files existing in the real world will have the same MD5 hash (although as with all such hashing algorithms, there are an unlimited number of files that will have any given MD5 hash).

Was it only etiquette that was breached?

Yes, that is what it boils down to.

No copyrights, trademarks, not other legal stuff was breached.

Which, to be honest, is why the whole situation looks childish and silly to not only myself but many others.

If breaking etiquette is such a serious offense, then it should have been incorporated into the open source licenses. As long as what is done is within the rules then there is really nothing to enforce.

Exactly. Compiling the exact same code will produce the same MD5 results.

Yet, as TheMarkness confirmed, the simple act of compiling code makes the project my own.

Therefore, the Google MD5 spreadsheet arguments are moot.

Why is it so hard to understand that these guys take what they do seriously. And they feel like they were spit on by greg so they are angry.

I apologize, it's hard for me to understand because I haven't been 12 years old for a LONG TIME ;)

Google Source = Open to all to build and compile a rom from
Cyanogen Source = Open to all to build and compile a rom from (he encourages using it)
Cyanogen 5.0.5.7 = Compiled and cooked rom for distribution and use.

Wasn't just etiquette it was stolen work, he took a cooked rom and claimed as his own. He is more than welcome to build his own rom from either open source.
