I just had to repost this from another thread in the ROM section. This is simply unbelievable.

A user posed a question in the the Koush sub-forum about switching from Ultimate Droid to CyanogenMod. The user asked if he needed to do a data and cache wipe during the install. Koush responded:

Let's step back to grade school everyone. Google's source and Cyanogens source for this example is a horse stencil that we are going to use to draw a horse on a piece of paper. (haven't lost you yet it hope!).

Alright Bobby takes the stencil and makes his horse, he's a lefty and a little sloppy using the lines (we like bobby anyways).

Alright Ricky takes the stencil and sits and looks at it on the paper. Teacher asks him "whats wrong ricky?", ricky doesn't give an immediate response so the teacher just figures to come back later.

Bobby leaves to go potty with teachers permission (he's such a happy young boy). Ricky being a little devious boy decides to go the bathroom too only to TAKE BOBBYS HORSE DRAWING AND COPY IT ON THE COPIER IN THE LOUNGE BY THE BATHROOM (devious indeed).

Ricky returns quiet quickly in a rush and returns to his table (sliding bobby's horse picture to his spot while the teachers helping other children).

Bobby returns happy and cheery as ever (don't we love that ) not thinking a thing about it UNTIL EVERYONE STARTS SHOWING THEIR HORSE DRAWING IN FRONT OF THE CLASS!

Bobby calls out Ricky on this upset because he didn't do anything wrong he shared the same stencil with Ricky he doesn't understand why he did that.

Ricky's response is he starts to cry (kids do that when in trouble) to take attention off the matter and get the teacher on his side (along with some of the other kids). He starts pointing fingers and blaming Bobby that he copied him. BUT WAIT!

Bobby's left handed and make sloppy lines so after the teacher looks closely at both childrens work and their writing styles she figures out the truth!

RICKY COPIED BOBBY'S HORSE DRAWING AND TRIED TO TAKE CREDIT AS HIS OWN!

Wow that was fun I hope you guys can follow it's pretty simple, I'm sure my niece can understand that one :icon_ banana:

How can you tell if a module came from a cooked rom vs source code?

Again the MD5. When you compile the a source those files have a date/time generation on the file which won't match the date/time of another persons compile (unless magically you both did it at the same exact date, time, sec, ms, etc). Then when our MD5s are generated it takes into account that completely unique file in it's size, build time, and all the aspects to generate that hash. Having two identical hashes is next to impossible.

I see. I'm used to generating exact MD5 results here at work. I forgot that we have uniform compilers, paths, compile clusters, etc.

Sometimes I get so used to my ways that I overlook conventional methods.

But then this still leaves the issue that if BD simply recompiled then it wouldn't be an issue... still petty IMO

Does it make you wonder if he is capable of building the ROM from source? If so, does it worry about what else he may be doing when he makes changes? Is he opening a possible attack point? I need a phone that works. Like I said before, I want a ROM source that is trustworthy and open. UD and BD have failed that test.

Turns out that Bobby and Ricky were gay and had a vendetta against each other because they both wanted the same boyfriend. Thats how it started before it got to the above point. Since you and I seem to be doing most of the discussion at this point I can only assume this is directed at me. Do you have proof that it is faster? I seriously doubt that it is faster as they have the same core. I really do not care what anyone runs on their phone. If it makes you happy, then I am happy for you. I have explained my reasons for switching from UD to CM. Your reasons for keeping UD are yours and I don't really care. In fact, I have posted the link to UD's site to help people who want to use it earlier in this thread.
