I suggest getting a one year contract though this time. Its $70 more, but worth it when you can upgrade to LTE next year. That's what I'm doing.

Slight side note, I am looking at this phone when I switch off of ATT soon. Just from poking around I thought I saw somewhere that even if you sign a 2 year contract, you can "renew" your contract every year and get the contract price of any phone? Just wanted to make sure this is right because I was going to give LTE a little while to get everything ironed out before I moved to it.

that is correct, i have upgraded on a 2 year contract after just a year a few times already.. even one person said it has to be the main line but that was not true in my case.. any line upgradeable after just 1 year on a 2 year contract.. they just dont want you to move carriers..

my dad has a droid x. I had to wait in line overnight to get him that phone. I got to set it up for him, I install all the apps and everything. It's pretty cool, but I've got to play with an evo before and I liked sense alot better. I really wish google would have a way to put apps into folders by type like iOS. But yeah, I'm so hyped man!

I know the feeling, thats exactly what I am doing. Played with one for like an hour at the VZW store the other day and was sold. Almost bout the X that day, but decided to check around and see if anything was close to dropping.

I confirmed os is Froyo, sense 2.5, battery appears to be the same as the Desire HD (its brother for sure) and release in "very very soon". Now for the pics and some cool stuff. I will open a new thread once its ready to go....I am hoping for release late tonight or "later tonight" but it could push to the morning. there are some things I am not in control of. Unfortunately..... that's life

General question for anyone really, is there any chance that through any kind of optimization or anything that even with the same battery it will last a little longer than the Desire HD? Every review I have read praised the phone for everything except the battery. It is definitely no deal breaker, just curious of the chances?

Well look at the incredible. It just got a 1750 extended battery, at not cost to size. Hopefully we could get the same, or something like it.

Ugh, man i hate to say it but CDMA tech phones are known for their poor battery life(ie EVO 4G) compared to similarly equipped gsm devices so I can definitely say that since this will have even worse battery life than the Desire HD. GSM phones have always had battery life so looks like an extended battery might be a must here.

how bad is the desire hds battery? i plan on getting this phone since there wont be lte in my area and i cant wait anymore for a droid...
