[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

can anyone confirm that you can't download apps from the market?? there's been a couple people on the forum that said this is the case.
I just downloaded and installed Google Earth.
Used Wifi to do it though.
Also Downloaded Google Sky Map using 3G and it installed fine.
I cleared my cache after installing the update but don't think that should have anything to do with it.

I get:

-- Install from sdcard...
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

The zip folder is corectly installed on the sd card.

I forced 2.1 and all went well. However, I went to the marketplace and tried to download Google Earth and keep getting the message "Download was unsuccessful, please try again". Suggestions?

Disregard. Got it to download. Everything is working flawlessly. Even downloaded helixlauncher so I have 7 screens now too. Awesome!

I was able to download and install using Wifi as well, but not 3g... beeezare!

So I followed the steps and everything worked just fine. BUT any reason it says for verison 2.1-update1? I was assuming it would only say 2.1. Also I really didn't notice any speed increase and the default browser isn't using pinch and zoom (granted I use Dolphin Browser so it doesn't bother me much).

Too bad they added more crap that I won't use as well...goggles...

Agreed. Downloads are working once again for me as well via Wifi and 3G.

the people that are getting the force closes are because they had launcher2 installed when they upgraded. You have to get into "settings" then manage applications and then clear defaults for that app. It should be possible... keep working at it.

So, how do I get into Settings if I get the Force Close message every 2 seconds because I had Launcher2 installed?

A little help?
Turn off your phone, then hold down the Menu and Power/Hang Up buttons, and keep holding them through the splash screens until your phone boots. You’ll see "safe mode" in the lower left corner.
You then can uninstall launcher2.
Then turn it off and back on again.

So I downloaded the update via the link using astro to install and update my phone. Zero problems to report. Of course I hate not having more screens but hey it works and I am happy. :icon_ banana:
