I can't help but laugh at those who try to pump the Bionic over the Bolt

Normally I browse this forum for information and news on Android in general but as a new Thunderbolt owner I just had to chime in.

Damn Android sheep, willing to pay more for something that isn't even out of beta!!!!

Did I misread the forum heading again?

I'd say that 90% of the members of this forum are logical, the other 10% own a Thunderbolt!!!

Actually probably higher than 10%. Refer the the previous "Check the forum heading" comment.

I don't care what phone you have.

Unless it's a Thunderbolt.

If you feel the need to justify your purchase that means YOU are questioning the purchase yourself.

Personally I think most of the justification comes as a defense of "XXX SUCKS AND SHOULD DIE" posts.

BTW you all got snookered on that rumor of a LTE price hike, the Charge is coming with the same data plan, and I'm sure the Bionic will too...

I'm sure you're sure the Bionic will launch on the first rumored release date as well, but it doesn't make it fact until it happens. I'm willing to take the risk of "unlimited" 4G locked in over the obvious hardware upgrade of a Bionic. Pencil me down as an idiot, snookered android sheep.

I upgraded from a stock D1 (rooted then back) and I couldn't be happier. The battery life isn't optimal but I get a good 10+ hrs between charges and that's fine for a normal day. The 4G is absolutely smoking fast where I live and the UI is just as smooth as the iPhone4 one of my co-workers has. We can debate that all you want but even he admitted this was the first Android phone he'd consider switching to.
I'll admit I was torn when my upgrade came around. I was aiming for the Bionic based on hardware alone. I'm not particularly loyal to Moto or HTC, I've had good and bad experiences with both. Even though I probably won't end up rooting my Thunderbolt it's still far and away better than anything VZW has on the table (other carriers just aren't an option for me). I don't see the point bashing the Bionic before it's even out, but the backlash of flames aimed at the TB just seems excessive.

what hookbill said

the thunderbolt is fine as far as new tech phones. the processor is good for a single core. sense is nice, 700+(forget :) ) ram is good. battery issues are just not a big deal its not an iphone batteries are cheap and easily changable. Are better phones coming out of course. the doing away with unlimited so i better buy a TB will happen when verizon announces a date of the change and that the relesase dates of the newer phones wont make it. To buy now to avoid something that hasnt been announced reminds me of stripes

Cruiser: I joined the army 'cause my father and my brother were in the army. I thought I'd better join before I got drafted.
Sergeant Hulka: Son, there ain't no draft no more.
Cruiser: There was one?

thats just not a good reason to get the thunderbolt at this time. the rootable/rommable definaltey is.

as i have said the reason i havent gotten it is 2 main reasons.
1)htc track record with their attenas.
2)no hdmi

hdmi mirroring -everything on your phone is displayed on your tv.
dlna-only files can be displayed--means no streaming video, no games etc.
there is a difference between the 2 and i have dlna on my tv and its great.
if their was a choice between hdmi and dlna this would be a tougher decision, but most of the new phones that have hdmi also have dlna. im betting all of them but i am not sure of that.

fact is i prefer lg tv's over samsung i believe i am in the minority on that but they work for me.

If the thunderbolt works for you and you re happy with it great.
but to say you dont need hdmi is insulting i have enough people telling me what i need or dont need :)

2 months after we are braggin about our new phones others will be bragging about their more updated new phones its

just remember this is all about fun next negative comment will be forced to buy and use only an iphone for the next 2 years.

Yeah... Sorry, I just can't help but to laugh at these people. They keep pumping up the dual core as if its this huge advance and that it automatically makes the TBolt a "dinosaur" (quote from a moderator on the main board).

Sorry, this is a quality phone. This is a damn good phone and will be around a while. Its already been rooted, the battery problems are manageable (I'm getting 20 hours a charge over a week of use while constantly being on GTalk, Handscent, and Gmail) and overstated, and it runs Sense, which helps to speed up the UI instead of slow it down. Oh, and lets not forget that this device is the new flagship of HTC.

The Bionic will have Blur, will never be rooted, and even before it comes out, its already an outdated phone on Moto's own line.

Sorry, I just don't see it. Dual core is new, and will likely lead to a TON of problems. If you think there are battery problems with the TBolt, just imagine what it would be if it was trying to power TWO processors instead of one.

I disagree on the battery life being manageable. I guess if you consider carrying a charger everywhere or installing an extended battery that makes the phone weigh as much as a Glock 19 as manageable. I hadnt used my phone for 8 hours today and it's down to 69%. I picked it up and used it for a few minutes and now it's down to 62%. Last night the phone blew through 75% battery after one 30 minute phone call and 20 texts. That is not manageable. Maybe crappy battery is the cost of admission for 4G, but this is beyond ridiculous. My phone is basically unusable. I expect the Bionic to at least be serviceable. Moto makes much more power-efficient devices plus the Bionic is coming with a 1900+ mah battery instead of the weak 1400 mah battery the TB has. Even if the TB is a good phone, it's like a Ferrari with a 3 gallon gas tank. It doesnt matter how good it is if it can be used to his real potential.

Sounds like you have a faulty battery, might want to get that checked out. Mine wasnt near that bad, but i installed the extended anyway, fits fine in man hands, and my arm hasnt gotten tired from it yet :D

Yeeeaaaah, I'm getting 20+ hours out of my phone, and have been everyday for the past week. Granted, I'm on 3G, but I can't imagine 4G will have that much of an impact.

Then again, I just got mine a week ago today. Perhaps I got one that has had some of the bugs worked out before it was shipped?

Just saying, one thing is wrong with that. P3 successfully sbf'd back from that update to 2.3.340 so you can get back if you want root.

I remember that happening with frg22d on the d1 making easyroot no longer work, so I figured they would find a way around it. I just wanted to post the link to show that yet again Apple (sorry, meant Motorola) is being persistent in locking down their devices.

Since rooting, custom ROM, custom kernel, even using 4G and overclocked to 1.5ghz w/ profiles set....I get GREAT battery life on the stock battery all considering.

And whats even better is that I can't imagine HTC ever doing this to the Thunderbolt. Why? They were the ones that released the Source Code for the Thunderbolt's Kernel!

If that's your only reason, think again. They released their kernel source because they're required to by the GPL that governs the Linux kernel Android uses. To not release the kernel code would be a violation of the license and they could potentially loose the right to use the kernel. That would be really bad for them.

Maybe the battery is detective but my best friend and a girl I see have this.phone and all three of us have these issues.. I'm about to go to class for 3 hours .. the phone is at 100% and will be dead at the end of class from me surfing.. I could surf the entire session on my Droid x and only use 30-40% battery.. I will call Verizon and ask for an extra battery or something.. I can't rely on this phone at all as it is.

I'd definitely try another battery. Also did you fully discharge and recharge for at least 4-5 cycles? I heard that can help. I can leave mine unplugged for 8-9hrs over night and only lose 5% or so. If I'm at 100% when I leave the house I'm good for a normal 10-12hr day. With heavy use maybe around 7?

*edit* also turn down your display brightness to 1/3 or lower. My primary drain by a LARGE margin is the display.

Just called Verizon and they're gonna send a new battery..

I've had the phone since launch and tried ALL the tips to save battery.. nothing really helps. As soon as I start using the thing, the battery drops at the rate of 1-2% per minute..

I tried the extended battery but o found the size and heaviness unacceptable.. plus it never updated the charge level..
