Ics soak test has begun!!!!!!!!

Here is my update timeline, unrooted on .905. Not on soak test, BTW.

10:49 Did a "Check for updates" and saw .246 available and started download
11:49 Download finished (4G) and verified update
11:53 Started install
12:14 Install finished
12:20 Started optimizing apps, calendars, etc.
12:28 Finished optimizing
12:30 Lock screen appeared
12:45 Notice of successful install

The battery level went from 95% to about 70%, but it looks like I'm at 1200 mhz.

I didn't get data or phone service for about 30 minutes and the favorites widget doesn't seem to load. We'll have to see if my phone numbers are still there.

UPDATE: It looks like the phone numbers are there. I recommend turning the phone off and on a few times to let the program "settle in."

just pulled it around 3 pm, took about 45 min to download on 3g. i was running a completely stock bionic, and never signed up for any soaks, so i'm def a happy camper that i got it today. i just checked every couple of hours for system update, and then out of the blue it got it. i couldn't stop smiling for the whole 45 min lol, now im home from work so i can play with it and figure out my "new" phone.

I joined this discussion really late..
running unrooted, stock, and didnt register with motorola's site until i saw it posted in this thread yesterday.. so of course I wasnt part of the soak test group..

so they are pushing the update to users other than the ones in the soak test??
damn you.. now Im going to spend all weekend hitting 'system updates' :p

None of the ICS builds would install with forever root. The answer is simple. They assert on the file that forever root changes on your system partition.
I guess i missed that info along the way.

first off, thanks to everyone here for all the info and help, especially sarge & sam.
ive been lurking here for about a year now!
my question is how do find out if i am "forever rooted"?
i rooted back on 5.5.893 using whatever method was recommended back then. My phone kept its root thru the 905 update.

Check the following:

RootExplorer Method
go to /system/bin/
open in text editor – mount_ext3.sh
Check if the following lines exist:

chmod 4755 /system/bin/su

chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

using es file explorer:
the very last line of mount_ext3.sh reads chmod 4755/system/bin/su.

i didnt see the other 2 lines in that file.
thanks again.

Could this be a good sign of Jelly Bean for the Bionic?

Trade up to a new Motorola smartphone and you may qualify for $100 back | The Official Motorola Blog - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA I don't see it as one of the list of Motorola Phones not getting JB that you can trade in. And that list includes phones like the ATRIX 2.

We were told by Punit Soni to keep an eye on the update schedule. And that it would be updated shortly after OTA goes out. So I'm guessing we'll see something next week.

Hopefully they won't add the Bionic on that list of trade in phones next week. All we can do is hope.

so...you liked my post, sam...does that mean im good for OTA, or are you reminding to like your post :) ...or both?

The way I read your post it seemed you found the offending lines. As long as you remove them and keep the cursor at the beginning of the last line (that's important....the file must match EXACTLY) then you're good.

i see, so just even having the singular offending line will cause a fail.
and if i somehow neglect through my own halfhazardry to place the curser in the exact location it was previous to rooting...fail.

You know, i have been wrestling with the idea of HOBing for a while now, i believe im off to read the HOB FAQ now....

i would love to +1 you but cant find the button.

Line hell....a single CHARACTER, including a new line, will cause the hash to be off and the assert to fail. Fun, ain't it? Yes, HoB to the rescue. I made that thing super easy. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. :) Don't FXZ anything. Just use the damn install option.

*sigh* That erases everything on the phone no? I guess I need to backup. I'll do it over the weekend.

I had the same problem. Likely because I got impatient and restarted the phone during "Updating Media Database". I did a factory reset without doing a backup and all my apps redownloaded, just set up my email accounts, Funambol (One Media Hub) account and other than loosing the txt msgs I don't think anything else is missing. I did have the options for backup and restore enabled.
