That's stock recovery. Sounds to me like you weren't getting the official 83D file. Try this:

Rename it update.zip and try installing it. If that doesn't work then we'll push a master OTA and then try that file again. To save time, here's the master OTA for 22D.

Nope...its a Droid..we live in the same city/state and thru Verizon

Then lets do this a different way.
1. Download z4root for the web and put it on sd and install.
2. Root phone permanently and reboot.
3. Install rom manager from market and flash clockwork recovery, may have to do it a couple times.
4. In rom manger find stock 2.2 rom and install after download, or install zip from sd card..(your update.zip).
5. Make sure to backup everything and wipe date and cache.
6. Smoke a cigarette and drink some coffee, and let me know what's going on.
