Crazy. I check the forum for the first time since yesterday afternoon and find that we have access to the update file AND can now root the Droid. Just made my day.
Just FYI, but these obviously don't have the Verizon customizations applied to them, as the Android Market no longer has the Verizon Apps tab. It's been replaced by a Downloads tab.

I just did it all by myself. As someone who has trouble programming her DVR, this is huge. It was very easy to do.
I definitely notice a difference in the touch responsiveness. I did have to reset my ringtones, but I can live with that. The camera quality is better, although it actually takes longer to access the card now. Not sure if that's because the camera itself is taking better pictures.
Oh, I also tried to go into the Browser on the phone and download it there. Got an error saying my phone didn't support the file type. I didn't try it from phonearea though.
