Manually Update to 2.0.1

Your begining to drive me nuts playin pretend mod, windstrings.

For all I know a Mod might shut me up.... I just get tired of hearing people that either don't have the guts to complain under their own screen name and so register a brand new name just to stir discontent, or come for the express purpose to cause hate and discontention.

I'm new to pda/smartphone stuff and I don't have time for someone who post 3 posts one after another trying to get attention. "so I gave it to them"

If someone has a complaint, they can post it and wait for a comment or help.

If they just hate their phone and want a sympathetic ear they need to go to the I-phone forum.

I'm aways amused at people who think because they have a problem, that means everybody else much have it too and should uprise into a revolt rather than realize they may be unique or at least a voice in the wilderness.

My camera is much better than it was and in light of all the other awesome features, I can't toss my phone because the camera is not stellar.

Just how good does a camera phone have to be?

I had a dare 3.2mp before and it took execellent pictures, but the Droid blows it away in every other area.. including signal quality.

I haven't found a phone yet that will match the mp quality of a similar device dedicated to just being a phone.

There comes a point where you have to just deal with it.. or be patient, or take it back and get what you want.......

I'm sorry we can't have everything we want....Some of us are spoiled and used to getting everything.........

The Droid have far more features, toys and abilities than any phone I've ever dreamed of.

If anyone disagrees and carries the Droid, they have the wrong phone ... not a problem.. go get another.
Amen to this post!!!

Loaded fine, I am amazed they did not fix the bluetooth hands free dialing. This was probably the single most common complaint I have seen and has been standard on phones for years. What are they thinking! My battery also still dies overnight with nothing (no bluetooth, GPS, or wifi) running and the only reason I can think of is that it seems to be switching often between 1x and 3G. My old i760 was fine in my house, not a good signal, but not this issue.

Can I do this just through the phone or do I download the file through my PC then drag and drop to my SD card in my phone while its hooked up to the computer? This was not explaine. Please help I would like to try it because it is not coming to me.

Easiest way would be to go through your PC. Some people have done it through the phone but there was an issue with downloading the file because the phone did not like the zip file. They got around it with some software.

I believe it's easiest to have the phone hooked to your PC.
Download the file, Name it update, drag and drop it right onto your memory card.
Below are the instrcutions for applying 2.0.1 manually without waiting for OTA Update.

  • Grab this file https://android.clients.google.com/upda ... 263456.zip
  • Rename the file to update and place it the root directory of your SD Card.
  • Power off the phone.
  • Power on the phone, while holding the 'X' on the physical keyboard.
  • When you see the triangle and !, press Volume Up + Camera button.
  • Navigate to "apply update.zip" and press the gold button (center) on the D-Pad. Now it will install.
  • Reboot phone (should take 3-4 minutes).
Your DROID is now running 2.0.1 instantly without waiting. And you can go back later and delete the folder as it's no longer needed. I use this to get rid of unwanted files and folders. File Shredder

OK I know I may be new. But listen and read. I have added no new apps in days. Yesterday my phone was up for 1 and a half days. I get upgrade. And that's it. And now battery did not last 8 hours of minor on off use. Plz help. One person pionted me to turn off sync feeds. This did help a little. I'm still about to need a charge again. M phone never looses power while I sleep I goto sleep @ 80% battery woke up to 50%. Wtf Google. Phn was great yesterday before upgrade.

I manually update to 2.0.1 and there were definitely some issues with syncing and things that just didn't work as well as they used to...

From now on, I think that I may treat Android updates like I treat PC OS updates. Major updates = Fresh installs. I would rather spend 2 hours and start from a clean slate than spend countless hours trying to figure out how to fix each and every problem.

Since I did a factory reset, everything has been B-E-A-UTIFUL! I gotta hand it to the Android market. After you set up your default gmail account (ie. google checkout), reinstalling apps is a breeze!

hmmm I dont think I will be updating ,that browser bug scares me ,I use my browser a lot and I would be upset if it lagged...

You're going to have this problem once your phone is updated via OTA anyway.

Has anyone checked to see if this affects ALL browsers? Maybe Dolphin is better?

I read on other forums that it does and does not affect other browsers. Someone pointed out the rendering of pictures, and that is probably it. We will just have to wait for Google to fix this, should not take long. Anyway, try Dolphin of Steal and see if it works.
Thanks. I haven't noticed the bad scrolling and was just wondering aloud. If I come across the problem, I'll have to download Dolphin again and give it a shot.

Single most common complaint? Not sure where you're looking. A few people have expressed they have taken issue with this but the biggest complaint would be something like the camera and slow focus, etc.

Besides, I still don't know why everyone is so concerned about voice dialing via bt. Instead of hitting the button on the headset, tap the microphone button on the home screen. Speak into the bt headset. Boom! You now have bt voice dialing. Works fine for me.

This just isn't a big issue (imo).

I know a lot of people (including myself) are having the browser lag problem. I know that other people say they aren't. Has anyone that is having the problem tried a hard reset to fix it? Just wondering if a clean slate would take care of any problems (any apps conflicting with the update). I'd be willing to try it.. maybe when I get home tonight if anyone hasn't tried. (though I'm sure someone has)

a couple of pages back someone mentioned that after a call was complete, the phone returned to the homepage instead of the call log. is anyone else experiencing this because mine still goes to the call log.

should i update again?

how did you do the factory reset, did you do the settings>privacy>factory data reset or did you do it differently, i know there were some wipe clean options on the menu when I did the update, just wondering what you did to help

I did the update about 3 times as the night went on with 3 different updates/roots.

FB works great. Browser is lovely still.

so i read back a few more pages and I have to agree and I do not know why but doing a few resets of the phone slowly fixed each of my issues, sorta weird but I guess thats how it is with smartphones (more like a computer)
