More Froyo

It has maybe already been asked, but I don't want to read 119 pages : does it work on the Milestone ?

Nope, too different devices. Very similar but not the same. I haven't seen anyone report success with 2.2 and Milestone.

This version is strictly for the Moto Droid. If you have a Milestone and feel adventurous be my guest but I sure wouldn't risk it.

Well nuts...thought since it ran Droid 2.1-update 1 I could get it on there. Guess I gotta wait for Verizon to get off their rump and actually put the update out for the phone.

OK....You've got my curiosity up. Explain how you ran the Droid 2.1 update to your LG Ally. Are you sure that the update you received wasn't specifically for your Android device?

He probably just means it's running Android 2.1, not that anything pertaining to Moto Droid.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but there's a new "default" bootanimation with Froyo and it looks pretty neat! Mount your /system partition and delete the default Droid eye from /system/media/bootanimation.zip

The word "Droid" that kind of shimmers left to right? I'm a little surprised that is the default - I thought the "Droid" naming was a motorola/verizon thing, not a Google AndroidOS thing.

The only phone that can run this version of Froyo 2.2 is the Motorola Droid. The only thing that carries over from phone to phone is the APKs. The boot code, kernel and OS are complied specifically for each phone.

Ahh. I thought that it all was compiled from the same source files, but with different versions of just the architecture-specific stuff.

I deleted /system/media/bootanimation.zip and found the word "Droid" (in the droid font with the two dots on the R) as my boot icon. When I replaced system.jar and framework-res.apk, however, I now have the word "Android" that just shimmers. (I guess compared to the word Android, the word Droid actually appeared-disappeared, but in a shimmering way compared to the drawing way from before). Hard to describe, but now it looks very Part-Of-Google's-OS and not Part-Of-Verizon/Motorola's-Plan

Anyone not able to shut off WIFI in 2.2?
I upgraded from 2.1 to the first build of FROYO, then to the 33333 build. In both FROYO builds I am unable to shut off the WIFI. It turns off for a split second then comes right back on. I am using the 1ghz kernal with the WIFI fix.

Haven't seen this. It is a P3 kernel correct?

As far as I can tell the Kernel is correct:
Kernel Version:
2.6.32.9-P3Droids

I'm not sure what would be causing it. I'm looking for an appropriate thread to point you to.

I have been trying to figure this out for days and looks like I have finally! It appears that the new beta version of SettingsProfile is causing this. I will contact the developer of the app and let him know.

Thanks for the help

Great! Thanks for posting with your findings!

there was another post about this wifi issue too, some widgets were calling for it when gps was not available iirc.

I remember having problems with either the first or second leaks where it would take a little while (a minute or two) to switch from wifi to 3g, I had to reboot a few times because the wifi daemon would take up all the cpu cycles and wouldnt die.

Ive noticed that the "auto update" feature doesnt seem to work yet, I have it checked for rom manager and OS monitor, yet when I checked my updates today they still said "update available" and I had to manually do it even though the box was checked. Has anyone gotten it to work successfully yet?
