Just read somewhere that it is believed that the Droid will get 2.2 2 weeks after the Xtreme is released.
Thats unofficial but it makes sense since they want you all to buy new 2 year commitmtnes and then service the existing customerbase.
Google Android 2.2: Will Your Smartphone Get FroYo? : Product Reviews Net
Everyone -- Google, Motorola, Verizon, etc, has been saying the Droid 1 will get the update before anyone else now that the Nexus 1 has it. If they don't release it before they release a new phone running 2.2 there will be an outcry that will shake the heavens. Probably won't change much, but Verizon can't afford to piss off their customers, Google doesn't want to lose the good chunk of good will it will cost them, and Motorola will start looking like a second-tier phone maker. They only
just got over that perception, and have had enough trouble trying to remain afloat in a bloated market (cell phone manufacturing), if what I've read in the business news in the past few months is true.
As such, with the leaked RCs (which I suspect was a combination of shutting up the most vocal complainers and free beta-testing, though it may have cost someone a job -- I hope not) coming out so soon after Nexus 1 got its full OTA update, and
two RCs leaking so close together, it should be VERY near release. Toss in the report of seeing some Froyo updates in the wild and it seems like it might be close enough to taste.
Of course, Hook seems to have missed his estimate as to when the official release will happen by about 5 minutes at this point, so predictions are iffy at best. Now, it's possible the holdup's been on Adobe's part -- hardware support for the Droid -- and Moto won't release until Flash is ready, or V won't push it through till then, but that doesn't seem right. Froyo supports Flash, Flash just isn't finished, you know?
Anyway, here's hoping it's soon!
