More Froyo

Still waiting for update.zip file. I refuse to root and I don't run windows.

Then these ROMs are not for you as they are pre-rooted. Also, don't you need at least SPRecovery to push an update.zip onto your phone anyway?

Nope. The stock recovery console can boot to any correctly signed update.zip file - which a release candidate or official OTA release will be. The unofficial ones won't be properly signed, so the stock recovery console will reject them (but SPRecovery or Clockwork, etc will accept them)

Then get a beverage of choice, find a comfy chair and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait,!
Get another case of whatever and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wai!
Verizon should release it some day, month, soon.

For some reason ppl are claining ou can go FROYO without rooting and thats just not TRUE!

There is a pre-root option, and a post root option, no no-root option.

:))))

Actually the first version of Froyo it was true. And you don't have to be rooted to install the second version of Froyo 2.2 but it does come with root and will root you if you're not rooted already.

lol, u know all this time I never looked at it like that:

If u flash SP Recovery on 2.1 with RSD Lite, technically u could stop right there. Just have a custom recovery to back up your phone...

LMAO! Actually, you could try and see if root was broken in your install...

I have never been rooted before Froyo and I installed it without rooting my Droid.
I even made a guide on how to do it.

Upgrade to Froyo from the link below in your post?

SPRecovery Installed
Stock 2.2 Froyo with root installed

I thought SPRecovery was not stock?
Device will be root'ed without busybox?

I think Verizon would feel its not non-rooted.

You agree?

"With root" means rooted, simple enough. Which is why you restore back to unrooted if you have to send it back to Verizon. I think that's still going back to 2.01, though, and I have wondered if that would tip Verizon off to the fact that you'd been rooting.

Hate to break it to you, but you're rooted. Just because you didn't install to su binary and see a # prompt doesn't mean that you didn't modify things that are not accessible to a non-root user. Perhaps the word 'root' might not be entirely accurate, but the meaning is still there. If you are reflashing your recovery console, you may as well install the su binary.

It's like saying that you aren't cheating on your wife because oral doesn't count. It does count, and if you're going to get in trouble anyway, you may as well get some root.

Google skymaps had an update, and the update was to make the app moveable to the SD card. Is this a sign froyo is coming soon?

I saw that too and got excited and made a thread about it down in apps, apparently its geared towards the N1 users who legitimately got the beta.

hahaha best. analogy. ever.

I understand what root means I was just continuing with a previous post that said you can install 2.2 without rooting.
He shared that he created a guide which is where I copied that from.
Maybe I am not right and I have been misinformed but it was my understanding that when you install 2.2 (pre-release) it roots the device.

I would just like to know why so may ppl are posting that you can.

That is what I was clarifying.

Thanks

The cheating on your wife...
Hmmmm not really sure its a good analogy!

I think it's perfect, actually. Verizon forces you into a marriage so you can play with the servant girl. :D

I just hope V and Motorola get us our official Froyo release soon. I just know that, as soon as I get too fed up with waiting and flash the ROM from the OP back onto my phone, the OTA will be pushed out to us the next day, forcing me to set my phone back up again as soon as I can and keep root.

Does anyone think there will be a simple "stock plus root" update.zip like there was for 2.1? A big thanks out to Pete for making that one!:icon_ banana:
