Let me start off by saying I have spent at least 8 hours on the phone with Verizon over the past few weeks. I would maybe say I've spent upwards of 12 hours even.
I initially called to get the 1400 Family plan with 2 lines but also wanted to port over my old cell number. I was told that was not an issue but they had to give me a temporary new number that they would replace my porter number with when I activated my phone. I had no problem (so I thought) and was signed up and waited for my 2 new phones to arrive via snail mail.
They arrived, I called, I activated. They canceled one of my new #s and my old number onto the account. So I was set to go, right? Wrong. At this point btw, I had already been on the phone for around 6 hours, between a few different calls, just trying to get my old number ported over.
Eventually I got my phones working with the two numbers and eventually my first bill came. Not only was I not getting the promotional rate, I was charged a $49 activation fee for the "temp number" that the Verizon rep added to my account in order to get my old number ported over. This was what they told me I HAD to do...Plus, I was charged a $350 cancellation fee for that temp phone and another $49 activation on the new number I ported over. Overall, the bill was for one month of services without the promotional rate, plus a second prorated month without the promotional rate, plus 3 activation fees, 1 cancellation fee, plus they were charging me for data and text even though I had a data and text plan. Overall, $854 and some change.
Long story short, I spent another 2 hours trying to get this stuff all straightened out before I finally talked to some nice woman who fixed it all within 5 minutes of her reviewing my account and notes. She took off every extra charge/fee and got my account setup with the promotional rate. This is a great deal, but I don't think it was worth the endless hours I have spent on the phone with Verizon over the past few weeks. I wasn't trying to do anything except get this promotional deal plus port over my existing number, and it turned into a nightmare because no one at Verizon, until the last rep I dealt with, wanted to take accountability for my account being screwed up from their own doing. I hope this is the last of my troubles with Verizon!
