My guys are biting at the bit to root. For us, these are tools not toys. If I had 2 Droids I'd jump on some of the ROM's that are out. We fortunately, or unforunately, have to stay legit for the time being to make our daily bread. If dev's can improve what we can do...We'll jump aboard, ride it hard, and put it away wet!

unless this has live wallpapers the app drawer and flash i see no reason to un root and update... my sholes rom has all the cool 2.1 apps and the milestone music player with cover-flow.... really not giving me any reason to update looks like all of us with root would loose a lot more than we gain with an official release

Yeah I read that engadget article earlier and there really is no solid proof that things are going to be left off. All they have is the word of their 'trusted source'. Besides, even if it is true, Moto might be rolling out the update in parts with certain features coming at a later date. I think it's best not to speculate till the update hits.

low light camera

I'm very excited about the jump to 2.1...just hoping it fixes the low light (natural light) camera problem. Any buzz out there on that ?

I talked to the Data Consultant for Verizon Wireless. This will be another controlled release. Releasing 2.1 updated to approximately 20,000 people during the "end" of the week there will be a 2 day hold to verify and resolve issues, then remaining droid users should receive the update next week.

im not even gonna bother with the update if it doesnt have the new app drawer and live wallpapers. what esle would you get from it if not that

"stupid question time... Will the widgets and apps I have installed work with the update or will they need to be updated as well?"

I was wondering this as well; anybody know?

it would be the same as when we updated from 2.0 to 2.0.1. all that stuff should stay the same

So much negativity about this already. People are all up in arms on the moto facebook page because of speculation by endgadget about this 2.1 being watered down, but whats funny is the endgadget article even says in the very beginning that they have no details at all merely offhand speculation from someone who might work at verizon might have seen a test buld...etc.

Also there is a lot more that can be in an update that's worthwhile then just live wallpapers or a new app tray. You might not consider it better than when you currently have if you've rooted and taken the time to setup your overclock and themes.... but there could be lots of tweaks and fixes that you will want to update to eventually even if you have to wait for a rom hacker team to release something.

I think I read somewhere that part of this 2.1 patch was to get more utilization out of the gpu unit the droid has and was part of the foundation needed to be able to eventually run flash. There could also be fixes to things like the camera (that would rock) maybe tweaked memory management or power?

What I'm really excited for though is when the rom devs get it and start ripping it to pieces. When I see Sholes and taz and especially Adamz smoked glass rom (5.0 maybe?) on a 2.1 os I'll be freaking ecstatic. hopefully we'll still be able to have overclocked kernels.

Actually if that's the case you should root. I use my phone for business as well (it is my ONLY phone and gets a TON of use) and the ROMs (at least Bugless Beast) is by FAR way ahead of the stock ROM. I get better battery life, better speed (running at 800Mhz), and it's just all around smoother and more reliable. You really don't want to play Russian Roulette on the OTA (IMHO). The developers are VERY active in their threads and respond to (and fix) problems WAY faster than Moto/VZW will.

i would just like to see the same version that is on the nexus one on my droid. then i will unroot and continue to wait for a 2.1 custom rom.:icon_ banana:

Miami have you heard anything about when 2.1 will be coming out?

I heard from a source that got the same info "from two people that don't know each other" that we won't get it till March.

You make a great point for ME to root. But, if my guys root and have issues, I pay if they have any problems. I need to be more cautious with them. If all goes well with me...then you know...trickle down.
