Real non rooted Droiders dont OTA ...

The day after it really hits, we get the update.zip and manually install ! :icon_ devil:

Well........... Personally I'm loving the Bugless Beast and overclocking at 800 and I'll wait for the doctored version from our team on here....

The real question is whether we should deny the upgrade, as it may 'unroot' us. It all depends on whether it replaces the recovery image.

ok so I'm somewhat of noob with this stuff, what do you guys mean by unroot?

Thanks :)

Basically, they "rooted" their phone to get access to make edits to the software powering the phone (it's a risky unsanctioned process, but there are TONS of threads that explain it step by step). Rooting allows people to do things like overclock their phone so that it runs faster, or otherwise customize how it operates. Many people have been running a fuller 2.1 experience than the upcoming official update seems to be offering.

Anyway, unrooting basically means undoing the process and returning the phone to "normal."

That's my understanding, anyway! I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong! :)

If you rooted, you will probably have to unroot. But if your asking if your rooted, you probably don't have to worry. As you would know if you have root acces.

ok i am sure this has been asked....I have downloaded the sholesmod updater and I am rooted and running their rom.....will i get the update ota or will i have to manually update....i have not blocked ota updates either...

I have seen in multiple places that the Sholes ROMs block OTA updates. Might want to ask this question in the Hacks section.

I unrooted today. I figure ill test out 2.1 and if i dont get the things out of it i LOVED about sholes then ill reroot.

once again.....the ota update will most probably break root

Huh? Are you saying that if you are rooted that this will unroot your Droid?

I'm probably misunderstanding you so please don't come over and give me the b**ch slap across my face.:icon_ devil:

Yes downloading the update to 2.1 you will lose your root access. Though keep in mind 2.1 was rooted before it was released on the N1

you are correct. The sholes mod updates it's self. If you want the 2.1 release via the OTA then...unroot and unistall your sholes mod for now
