I would like to download the non-patch version of froyo to my droid. Do I have to be rooted to install the 76mg version of froyo? or am I stuck with the patch version? I have a mac so I dont have any of the recovery applications.
If I install froyo and its buggy or doesnt install correctly, how would I be able to return to 2.1?
My droid is the only phone I have, so I need to know there would be a way to return to "normal" if my experience of manually updating my phone was a bad one.
Or.. should I just keep waiting for the OTA and not mess around?
I know it may be hard to believe, but it may just be that the majority of people who recieved the update lately aren't members here. Their ramdom distribution model may have hit a dry patch of our forum members.

I wasn't aware there was a recovery mode in stock Android? However if you're rooted push the "x" key and the press the power button to boot into either SPRecovery or ClockWork.
