****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

I'm curious... why does everyone assume that their location has to do with anything related to the OTA update?

I recall this phenomenon occurring when the 2.01 to 2.1 update happened also. I have never seen anything anywhere indicating that your location is a factor in receiving the update.

Why do people think mentioning their location has anything to do with the update?! Did I miss something? Has there been information released about how the update will be rolled out in regards to location? Someone please enlighten me.

Still puzzled in Illinois.

Since I posed the question in the OP....Because we don't know for sure unless we 'track' it ourselves. :) Have you never been curious how it rolls? Our answers provide us answers, or not, but they are ours, not what someone tells us to think. It's simply another data point, and engages and reveals member's personal experience. Some find it interesting, too. ;)

Nope, location had absolutely zero to do with when you will receive your update. It is completely and purely random.

That's what I thought... I'm still not crazy.

It just boggles my mind when everyone posts they're in __________ (city/state) and they don't have the update yet! I noticed this during the 2.1 update as well!
What a strange group-think occurrence!?! Very odd.

By the way, I was still in the suburbs of Chicago, IL when I posted this! :icon_ goofy:

ANYWAYS....

Just so I don't derail this thread any longer, I'll actually contribute something....

Did anyone see the blog posting over on Droid-Life that mentions the email Verizon sent out to their business customers today? The email informed Droid business users that there will be TWO updates coming soon to their phones!

Here's the gist of the email (taken from Droid-Life):

A DROID update for you and your employees
DROID by Motorola – even better with Android™ 2.2 (Froyo)!
Within the next few weeks, two over the air software updates will be sent to the DROID
devices on your company’s account. The first update will bring the device operating
system to Android 2.2. The second update will enable users to download Adobe® Flash®
Player 10 for Android to the device once it is available in the Android Marketplace.

:) Well stated, and fair enough. I suppose I found the replies to be interesting in a different way... although I didn't realize you posed the question in the OP (it's been a while since I read the OP!) ;)

I still find it amusing and slightly frustrating at the same time! :icon_ goofy:

No harm no foul. :)

..and now I know you're from the 'burbs in Chicago. ;)

HEY!!! Get off my lawn!!!! [JimmyD runs and puts on tin foil hat to block the mind control rays] :icon_ goofy:

...ok, after a post like that, I think it's time to actually get some sleep.

I'm here in NJ and got the update on Wed. But it messed up my phone. Its stuck on the M logo and won't do anything. I've pulled the battery and no dice. I went to Verizon and they said its the 2nd one they've seen do that. Just ordered me a new phone and said thats all they could do for me. I read someone else on this thread had the same issue. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I really don't wanna have to download all my apps and stuff over again.

Okay... been trying to read through all the posts and am a bit confused. I downloaded the 45mb file yesterday (supposedly last weeks version that had issues), so now I am trying to find the "most current" version of the manual (non-rooted) 2.2 OTA. Can someone re-post the link with the current version, may save some time for lots of folks. Assume it is the +70mb file (think it would be great to reload the whole enchilda!) Would appreciate a quick synopsis of any know issues with the update (E.g. no silence mode etc...) Appreciate everyone's passion, willingness to share info! (BTW... have not yet loaded the 45mb file... still at stock 2.1)

I applied the 76mb version in OP of the Froyo Circus thread yesterday b/c I too liked the idea of a "clean" install vs patching up files to 2.2 (never had a good experience with upgrade of other operating systems, always prefer a clean install). For the first several hours, my phone sucked, absolutely miserable. Everything was slow and laggy, browser was incredibly slow, etc. Did several battery pulls and reboots and even a cache clear during that time but nothing helped. I had also cleared my app cache and data before the update (note that I did NOT do a factory reset, before or after the update) Finally I reminded myself what I had been reading on these forums over the past few days I decided to be patient and let the update "bake in". I set my phone down and waited for a few hours (painful hours). When I came back, I rebooted one more time and it was like having a new phone. Browser is faster than it ever was before, transitions are snappy and seamless, all of the flaky weirdness is gone. Basically I am very pleased with this update, especially because I can FINALLY accept meeting notices in Exchange Email without having to go to the calendar!!!!!!!

My advice, wait for the OTA or apply the manual update but give the update a little time to bake in before you pass judgement, I think letting those caches rebuild is key, letting things resync, etc.

My only frustration at this point is I did lose the ability to use my volume rocker to set the phone to silent, it stops at vibrate now. Maybe that will be fixed in the next update that Verizon is sending out to enable downloading flash from the market.

Based on my experience with software rollouts across a medium sized organization, I would guess it all has to do with server loads. I have NO internal knowledge of VZW, so I'm just speculating...

When we rolled out our upgraded ERP system, we sent it to different users at different times based on how heavy the server usage was for their area. Multiple divisions/locations have their own servers and we would deploy based on the lowest usage times. This is only a guess, but I could see VZW wanting to balance the load on their system by deploying at lower usage times in various areas. Of course, there's probably no way to take into account that a user who should be in Ohio isn't traveling in Texas at the time... but the deployment usually has a fudge factor built in. Also can't really take into account the fact that even though you sent me the update notice at a low usage time, I was sleeping/driving/in a meeting/ etc and didn't notice until later.

So, just rambling thoughts, but I would see some logic to random users based on system load at the time of deployment. Unless you find someone on the inside who knows the tech plan, though... in the words of the old Tootsie Pop commercial, "The world may never know". :)

amg - have you tried to connect to a PC via USB cable? If so, you may want to manually load the update and see if it resolves your issue. Search for the update file in the forums along with the instructions and I think you will have a really good shot at correcting this.

I noticed this was your first post - WELCOME TO THE GROUP!

Thanks for the welcome! Great forum with lots of info.

I tried connecting it to my computer but the M logo is still there. Don't think I can load the update manually if I can't even access the phone. My computer won't even recognize the phone like it used to. I guess its bricked.

To Vibrate or to be Silent, that is the question

Ok, this is definitely starting to sound like a real bug. Has anyone that received the OTA update seen this problem?
