****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

 First of all I want to apologize. I agree this is for the roll out and not "Bugs" or new "Features" Trying to watch so many boards you forget which one you are reading.

now, I check my wife's who is still 2.1 using Droid X and you do go from Sound > Vibrate > Silent using the volume up down and now I see FroYo made some new options. Didn't see this in the whats new document but now I understand. Hopefully all of us that have been asking this question now understand that the phone works as advertised, even if we don't agree with the "New Feature"

Thanks for responding and now I'll head over to the other board where I can post my problem about calls not automatically going to voice mail.

Cheers All. And Hope those that haven't gotten the OTA yet, will soon. It reall is a nice build, even with these new features we didn't ask for.

No apology needed Rich..brief overlaps are inherent, we're all trying to learn and understand these changes. G'Luck on the VM problem! :)

Who's got two thumbs and loves his Droid? This guy!!!! I received the update this morning as I posted and have been using it all day with no problems. I am so happy, I am basking in the greatness that is Froyo!

I haven't had any issues either, it works, of course I wasn't having any before the update this morning. I'm glad that you're happy and all but, what is this greatness that you're basking in?

UGH. still no froyo for me.

someone mentioned they do a roll-out to a huge group, then wait 24 hours, then do another huge roll-out, then wait 24 hours, and keep repeating until it's done. So it seems like tons of people got theirs Wednesday night/Thursday morning and now Friday night/Saturday morning. Does this mean my next chance of getting it isn't until Monday morning? Or do they still update some here and there during their 24 hours of "down time"?

It's really random, but the last two updates were in the evening about 10pm Pacific Time.

I haven't gotten it either, but I won't worry until the 18th.

Question about update

The ota update I received a couple days ago froze my phone. It restarted and is stuck on the Motorola Logo. My question now is I done a factory restore and nothing. Now I'm wondering, could I try to update my phone under the same option you do a factory restore by putting that file on my phone. that update zip file? If so can I download the update manually and try that and it be legal (legal as in, not voiding warranty)? And if so where can I find the latest update to download? Thanks In Advance.

My wife's D1 got the update this morning. It did the same thing as you describe. Completely froze up and stuck on the boot screen. Pretty much a paper weight now. Called VZW, then spoke to Motorola and then went into the VZW store. They couldn't fix it and are sending us a replacement phone.

I'm hoping it doesnt do the same to my Droid whenever it gets the OTA.

Question, will I stilll be able to USB tether with EasyTether Pro when the update is done?

I did the manual update to 2.2, i've noticed a decent performance increase.
I personally think it is an improvement over 2.1. However, I have just rooted my phone with EasyRoot so i can use the wifi tether.
Some people have reported issues, however i have YET to encounter any.

.

i am still awaiting it as well :(

im curious as to how the update is distrubuted. is it just random on who gets it when, or what?

You Should be fine with Easy Teather Pro

I manually upgraded when they first started doing the OTA. Couldn't wait. So far everything has worked. Thought there was a "Bug" with the Silent Vibrate option but learned via this board, it's a "New Feature" New selection in the Settings > Sound Settings. Thanks guys. Not!!!

I too have Easy Tether Pro for when we travel and all of my testing has proven successful. Other than totally F'ing up your wife’s phone, FroYo is a fairly good upgrade. Whenever you get it, you should enjoy it.

If they are sending out a new phone for your wife, you should have demanded a new Droid 2. Much faster processor and more internal memory. Just a thought. ;)

Comes in the night like Santa Clause

We have good friends, who has a daughter that is married to a Verizon Tech rep who said that they are pushing it out mainly at the darkness of night when most people are not using the bandwidth. I have noticed a lot of people saying that they are waking up and finding it on their phones. So make sure you don't turn off you phones at night so you will get it.

They are also controlling it so it doesn't overload their technical support staff. A lot more people are calling them with problems than researching for the solutions via these great boards.

That’s all I know and I really don't know all that much.

Cheers.

And if so where can I find the latest update to download? Thanks In Advance.

http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/OEM/9046f5a3ec09.signed-voles-ota-45394.zip This file provides the cleanest install method. What that means is it'll overwrite instead of patching the system part of the ROM on your phone. Fewer chances of residual lag, etc.

Question, will I stilll be able to USB tether with EasyTether Pro when the update is done?

Yes. Unless the app needs an update to function under 2.2 (which is highly doubtful since the 2.2 SDK has been out for months), it will work fine. Another option is to pay Verizon like $20 a month to use the official tethering option under settings>wireless & networks.

i just installed UD 6.0 cuz i got tired of waiting for google and not even 20 minutes later i got a notification for the update haha what should i do?

If it were me I'd ditch UD, but if you want it on there without the nag screens, reboot into recovery and install the update, but don't allow it to install. If you're running SPRecovery you'll know what I'm talking about. If you're on ClockworkMOD Recovery, I imagine it's a similar process/setup.

If you want your phone back to stock, then allow it to install properly. If you oops and it doesn't install right, then download this file and force it to install. You'll be on stock 2.2, unrooted, with the stock recovery image.
