****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

whats the advantage to the official update as opposed to UD?

It's stock. It looks like stock, it runs like stock, it smells like stock, and if you break your phone, Verizon will treat it like stock. If your version of UD isn't FroYo-based you're WAY behind in features, even though it's a custom ROM with lots of extras.

However, I'd recommend either updating UD to the latest version if you're not on it already or replacing it with something fresher.

I got the new update 2.2 Froyo

August 14th around 10AM. I saw an update on my Droid phone and I said YES! My roommate didn't get the update and he was pissed. LOL. I know he can manually do it, but he's actually waiting for the update from Google/Android.

There's a youtube video of 2.2.

I think the previous update, 2.1, I was like wow because they made a big update/upgrade from the original. This one, 2.2, everything is running a little more efficient such as Email (back/forward button), the overall look etc.

Here's the good thing about the Droid.

1. NFL app. It's called "NFL Mobile". You can watch the NFL channel live. I checked 'cause I have the NFL channel on cable tv. There's a 6-7 seconds delay on the phone, but it's super clear and it's FREE to watch on the phone. I couldn't believe it's not distorted watching the Texans play the Cardinals. I was on wifi. I'm sure it's probably distorted if you're on 3G. I stopped watching though 'cause I can watch it on tv, but it's nice if you're away from home. Would be nice if they had a baseball and nba FREE app like that.

2. The bluetooth is working better. When I get into my MKS, the music automatically play from my phone to the car speakers, pretty cool. No more burning cds. I like the fact that as soon as I walk into the car, I have music without having to touch anything. Thank you Microsoft SYNC, google, Ford, Lincoln cars etc.

3. That music widget is cool. Before when I was at the gym, I had to open my music app to turn off the music, now it's on my homescreen.

4. If you're connected to your computer bluetooth, you can listen to your music on your computer. You don't have to go buy a bose speaker like if you had the iphone. I just put my iphone and bose speaker away now. Cause if I get a phone call, the speaker acts as a phone speaker. Much clearer and easier.

Droid is becoming really nice. Not to mention it's faster than the iphone. Motorola need to work on the looks though. It's kind of bulky than the iphone. But I take great calls and the music car sync over than iphone.

For those still waiting…..

There really isn't a need to wait. Matter of fact you're better off not waiting. Why?

Have you seen people report problems with OTA installs? Well, I have. Now they are not numerous but a few people out there did get a bad install. Corrupted file, more opportunity for something to go wrong when you do it OTA IMHO.

Again I don't see tons of these, just a few but I truly believe that if you are download the file yourself and install you have less chance of something like that happening to you.

Having said that, it's your Droid. You can continue to be patient and wait. But if your patience is wearing thing, you can do something about it.

Also my understanding is the update is suppose to be completed by 8/18. Doesn't mean it will be completed or that updates will stop rolling out. Just want to give you a ballpark figure on how much longer you may have to wait.

Edit: I know sooner got done posting this when this popped up: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/motorola-droid/70472-ota-bricked-my-phone.html

Dang, didnt know this was rolling out yet. I skimmed about 10 pages of this, found a few other threads regarding what Im about to ask, but looking for a simple answer here cause Im still not clear.

I am rooted, just on the stock 2.1. I used sprecovery to do it. I dont run any custom roms, kernels, nothing. Just a plain jane, stock droid thats been rooted for wifi tethering purposes.

Id like to manually update but I dont know which zip to download. If you can point me in the right direction thanks. And once I get the update.zip on my phone, I just reboot into sprecovery and run the update? It wont flash over any of my apps or settings or messages will it? And most of all, wont lose my root so I can tether?

edit - did some more reading, found the zip that Jrummy posted that seemed to indicate was just as simple as putting on card and running the install from sprecovery. I did that, have 2.2 now, seems a bit slow but that seems to be the general consensus that it might be for a bit.

Just got my OTA about 9:30am, this morning (Ashland, Ky) (whatever that matters, it's not region determined). Still trying to figure out how to xfer apps to sd..isn't giving me option they are grayed out. And gonna try to remember how to dl flash.

Why have some Droids updated and others havent?
The rollout is random. The randomness of the rollout is to ensure an equitable update experience and to not overload the servers in any one location.

This question has been answered many times.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay. :) If you would prefer, do as Hookbill says and update your Droid manually. It's a simple process and the file available from this thread http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...tinues-frg01b-official-get-here-new-post.html offers a cleaner install than the one that will be dropped onto your phone.
