****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

Got the update this morning. It looks pretty neat, but I haven't played around with it much. I did notice that my touch screen isn't as responsive for switching screens as it used to be. Whatever, though
FroYo needs a chance to set up properly, otherwise it's still pretty gooey. Once it's properly set it'll run like a champ. If it doesn't, you may need to do a manual install of the larger update file to clear up your issues. If you want help doing that there are threads started all over and a guide going up either later to today or tonight, and there are several members willing to help out. Good luck and enjoy!

So i couldnt wait any longer and i broke down and did the manual update....worked great no problem thus far....now that i have 2.2 what are some must have apps or how can i optimize my droid to get the most out of it?

Get Flash (apk available in this forum) for one. I also got LIVE TV which uses Flash.

I updated this morning. Im gonna do a search but all i really want is 10.1 and the ability to save apps to my card. I use launcherpro plus which I love! Anyway, thought I would give my $.02dancedroidDroid forum rules!

I just want to send a general reminder to everyone to please be respectful to each other. If you do see a person not being respectful, be sure to report it and we will take care of it.

So didn't want to make it worse. Truly.

Just wanted to make a point about who you are and how respected you are here, etc. And to let him know that this particular thread is jam-packed with info that tends to repeat about every 10-15 pages or so...

Next time, I'll just take your advice....;)

On a positive note: I got my OTA overnight. Whoo Hoo. Speedy battery drain seems to the only bugaboo -- but I'll give it some time before I get into that...(no task killer, no fb, no anti-vrus, only about 10-15 pretty non-invasive added apps, already re-booted and battrey-pulled)

I saw that Sal. And I also saw the response you got, and I did something about that too. ;)

Thanks. Love this forum and how civilized it is, like 99% of the time...

Sometimes you need to cycle the battery so the phone can relearn how to handle it. I had that problem. The battery, being lithium ion polymer whatever, doesn't need to be cycled for its own sake, but the phone... can get confused. :) Having let the phone power itself off after draining the battery all the way down I let it charge up for an hour and have had better battery life since.

To hook and furbearingmammal:

I installed the OTA 8 hours ago...how long does the "setup" take? I figured once the phone rebooted after installing it was good to go. I rebooted the phone mid morning once I found the screens somewhat unresponsive and I attributed that to the recent installation. The reboot improved it some, but not to the way they worked pre 2.2.

After typing that last paragraph, I just tried again and it seems to be working fine (go figure). I will spend sometime this evening on my own figuring out the biggest changes that will effect my daily use. I'm curious to read the guide that will be posted, as well.

Good to know. I have the extended battery and I also saw a power drain. Of course part of that was my fault as I spent longer than normal with setup and playing around on the phone.

It takes about an hour or so for the system to settle in, but it certainly shouldn't take 8 hours to load. Just so long as it's working you're good to go.

Here's a change list for you:

im new here but im hoping this is where it belongs. about 45 min ago i got a message about the update and i installed it, and my phone has been really unresponsive and not really working since. I cant make calls, my texts wont load and just force close, i have a live wallpaper and usually it lags right before im going to get a message, and it looks like its gunna do it but nothing. my phone randomly shuts off as well. help?

a few quick questions (btw, I am running totally stock droid 2.1):

1) I know froyo does not play well with task killers. I have ATK installed now, with the settings very lenient, I have most apps/processes on my ignore list. I assumed I would just uninstall it when I got froyo, but now I have seen a few recent posts that task killers installed with it even updating. So am I best to uninstall it now?

2) I know it is recommended to let the phone 'bake' after the update to do it's thing and settle in. I am assuming the best thing is just to leave it plugged into the charger, but still on. Is this correct? Or should I power it off after the update? Common sense tells me it wouldn't make sense to turn it off, but I really don't know and I want to make sure I optimize the whole update process to get the best result out of it.

I downloaded a file to manually install it, but have yet to pull the plug so to speak. I need my phone for Saturday, so I am waiting to manually install it until Saturday night just in case I mess something up. Basically, I may get the OTA (if it comes before Saturday) or I may manually install it... I'm not sure if the answers to my questions vary depending on the method. I'm guessing it doesn't matter if it's OTA or manual, but I like to be thorough :]

That's a borked install. You'll want to do a manual install of the update file from the circus thread to correct the issue. Need a link and instructions?

Uninstall the task killer and leave it uninstalled, you didn't really need it under 2.1 either. :) You'll want to leave the phone turned on, and you can use it, just keep in mind it might be somewhat unresponsive for a while as it downloads and syncs and cleans up and various other things.

Just remember, your phone has gone through a traumatic experience and will need some TLC, kind words, and gentle caresses for a while before it'll turn back into the demon you once knew, only with even better tricks. ;)

I found a couple things that I noticed right when I got the OTA.

My phone got real slow (downloading the update)

Install went fast, and on the reboot I thought it was stuck on the droid eye.....was 5 minutes or longer.......WAIT IT OUT.

Once it was booted my phone radio looked turned off and my phone was super laggy and took about 5-10 of syncing before it settled down.

After it looked like syncing and all that was finally done.....i rebooted.

Since then my phone rocks, fast, fast and fast.

Just FYI's from my OTA experience on a Stock Droid.

That makes a lot of common sense. I let it run to about 5% (with the red notification light) before plugging it back in for the first time since the install a couple of hours ago. It's at 100% now. I'll let it go all the way out, as you suggest, next time.

The good news: it seemed to charge back up at the normal pace. dancedroid

Thanks so much!
