Often imitated, never duplicated! Focused 1.8.6

If I want to make changes in framework-res.apk, can i unzip a theme, then rezip using 7zip? I want to use the sliders from rubix 1.0. Can I simply copy & paste the images? Are the images the only things I need to worry about?

Yes. Backup everything and go for it.

Sent via DROID X 2.2.1 rooted running Rubix Focused 1.8.6 overclocked @ 1.25ghz on Verizon Wireless

Hi,

I tried to install as per the instructions on the first page. I copied the zip file to the root of the SD card. Then using ROM manager 2.5.0.7 I selected "install ROM from SD card" option, choose the zip file and then it asks me to back up and clear data. I check wipe data and then the phone prompts for a reboot. Upon reboot it looks like the package starts to extract, then a exclamation mark shows and then reboots the phone back to root state it seems.

For the root part i followed step 2 option A part with the rageagainstthecage file. Seems to have worked, as I was able to use the wireless tether.

Any suggestions?

Install: Better off installing via recovery, than ROM Manager. Following the steps in the first post should get things installed correctly.

Edit: Hmm, this could also be due to a bad download... If you have any problems with the install by following the directions, and doing it via the menu in recovery... then the first thing I'd try is to redownload the .zip, and try again...

It can be done that way, yes.
I would re zipalign it as well...

Hey, just wanted to mention that I experienced the random pictures getting deleted on install. I read that this has been reported before. :)

Yup. I just found out that a bunch of files and pix were all randomly deleted after install...made me a sad panda for a little bit.

Your battery performance is well outside the norm though. People shouldn't expect to get what you get. I've got my phone pretty well optimized and have never seen the kind of battery life you get. Most people don't, in fact. You have the rare super X. The fact that you are able to overclock it to 1.45 GHz is proof of that. Mine can't be overclocked past 1.15 GHz. Your phone is just different than most. Should someone on rubiX Focused 1.8.6 expect to be able to use their phone for an entire waking day without worrying about battery life? Sure, why not. The way I figure it is: do I really need my battery to last longer than I'm awake? Charge it every night and you should be fine every day. I would be interested, cpjr, in knowing exactly what kind of setup you are running.

Edit: It also depends on how much of each day you spend connected to wifi versus 3g versus 1x...

Yeah I charge every night while Im sleeping. I also keep WIFI off all the time, unless a rare occasion pops up to use it. I live in the Atlanta area and run 2 companies, with that do a decent bit of traveling around and outside the metro area.....3G service is pretty good most everywhere I go.

Obviously I use Focused 1.8.6, I run autostarts to disable alot of things starting up on boot, there are ALOT of background processes that arent necessary (or not necessary for me anyways) and I do have 5 or 6 widgets that need data to update, but each are set to every 3 hours.

Also, I use (as I'd imagine alot do) Gmail which is Push, I do alot with email but the app isnt having to ping the server for new mail.

I keep GPS off and use Tasker to auto turn it on if I open certain apps (like maps) that will need it and then back off when Im done.

I do agree I have a very well running X from the factory as it will run all day long @ 1.45ghz with no issues. I remember when I had the D1 I couldnt for the life of me get past 1.0ghz when alot were getting almost 1.3ghz stable....so maybe its payback :)

Umm, probably more to it but nothing comes to mind at the moment.

PS- This is an example of 1 day, there are days where I am able to drain the battery in 12 hours and Ive gotten about a full day+ also.....but usage is very hard....no....impossible to judge between devices/users so its not really important. What is important, when it comes down to it....does the phone last long enough to work for you...the user.

Heh, you'd probably get even more battery life if you stayed connected to wifi when available. The wifi radio uses something like 30% less power than the 3G radio.

What kinds of things are you disabling with Autostarts?

Thank you for the detailed and informative posts cpjr. Like Inkarnit, I'd also be very interested to hear your strategy for Autostarts, if and when you have the time.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone setup a site yet which lists and identifies each of the Android startup/process items? Something similar to one of the many sites available for a PC which identify and explain the function of startup entities and services?
TIA

ok heres a small problem im having .....i use chomp sms ....i usually turn notifications off on the message app that comes with a rom to make sure i dont get double notifications .....well even if i turn it off with this rom i still get a notification from the pre installed message app causing double messages......now also after checking the text that may come in i cant get the message icon to go away from my notification bar......i have to manually press clear in the dropdown to make it go away .....i have tried uninstalling the message app and that ultimately causes my sms to stop coming through in chomp also because i guess chomp is reliant on the stock message app......i have uninstalled and reinstalled this rom twice following instructions to a t and cant get this issue resolved?

I just installed this and it's working great, however when I try to go and set a custom battery saver mode, when I click the settings button it just throws me back to the main settings menu???

thoughts???

I like using the battery saver but the default to go to low power mode at 2200 doesn't work for me when I work til 2300 some days.

Anyone have any luck putting the FM radio back? I have all the files in the right directories and have the file permissions properly set. When I start the FM radio app it opens but never gets past "FM radio is being launched, please wait."

heelloooooo droid forums. This is my first post! I want to say hello and that I am fully enjoying Focused 1.8.6! Runs like a charm! As stated before by others, I did as well experience the photo deletion after install, thats ok, no big deal.

Battery life for me is fine. I have an extended battery so im good for a whole day mostly unless I use it hardcore. I have it running at a stable 1.3Ghz. Have been for a month with no issues.

After I installed this rom on the 16th, I would like to report an issue. I am not certain if this has been posted here(I didnt read all 40+ pages), I experience a power cycling problem. I believe its related to the music player and bluetooth. Here is what happens:

I have the motorola car mount which I use with my X. It goes into car mode no problem when put into the mount. I have a bluetooth speaker which syncs with my phone then using the FM transmitter on the bluetooth speaker, I tune into it on my car stereo. This is how I listen to music in my car through the bluetooth speaker broadcasted to my car stereo(have been since August). Since installing focused, randomly at points, the phone will crash. No response from buttons and music stops. The phone then restarts. Sometimes I need to pull the battery as well. Phone calls seem to be fine, but when the music starts playing, it could crash at any moment. I am using the music mod player that comes with the rom and have not tried diff music players. I have reverted back to stock 1ghz but that did not stop the crashing.

Sorry for the long winded first post, but I cannot figure out how to fix it, or maybe its just a bug that needs to be ironed out. Other than that issue the rom works better than I could have hoped for! Keep up the great work!

ALso, sephtin thank you for the black bar mod, I love it!
