★☆★ The Official "I got my Galaxy Nexus" Thread ★☆★

I am out in the burbs and am upgrading this afternoon, can you be more specific on this $100? What exactly is the $100 promo for?
I thought you need the snail mail letter to get the $100 off.
No "snail mail" coupon needed....this is not one of those loyalty rewards coupons that were mailed last week. This is a special VZW promotion to encourage people to upgrade from a 3g device to a 4g device. Requirements are:

- Currently a VZW customer.
- In Chicago/midwest...I can only validate Chicago.
- Renewing contract for 2 years.
- Early renewal OK. I'm 20 months into my contract and was eligible for a new device at the regular discounted rate. This is an additional $100.00 off!
- Phone must be purchased in a VZW corporate store.
- Promotion active through December 31st

That's it! As I said, make sure you talk about the promotion with your sales consultant. This promotion seems to be a bit "under the radar" and my consultant was not aware of the promotion.

Hope this helps!
So, I olrdered me Gnex over the phone this AM and paid the standard $269 after NE2 upgrade discount. I called back after reading this and asked the rep about it. It took her a solid 10 minutes just to find the promotion, and then she informed me that the promotion is only available for qualifying phone numbers. I'm not sure what the qualifications are. I live in Michigan and currently have (2) 3g phones on separate accounts... neither qualified for the $100 promo discount. :-(
Not sure what "qualifying phone numbers" are either....sorry!

The person in front of me at the VZW store was doing the same thing. He suggested I call *611, the customer service number and that's what I did. This is where I got my info in my previous post from, the rep on the line was reading me the qualifying criteria....FYI, nothing about a qualifying number. Also, I was talking to the phone rep as we were processing my Nexus sale in the store....nothing like having corporate on the line!

Last FYI, I upgraded from an OG, so I had a smartphone, just went from a 3g device to a 4g device. Also, had no loyalty credits....just the subsidized price when I entered the store.

Good Luck!
Sorry to dig this up from earlier in the thread, but I stopped at a western-burbs store last night to get the scoop on this discount. I was told that it's an account specific credit, and accounts were chosen several months ago based on certain criteria. If your account met the criteria, you were mailed a letter informing you of this, and the credit is shown on your account when the corportate store pulls you up in their system. I had them check my account and my parents' account, and neither showed the credit. I asked if I would be better to call customer service, and they told me I could try, but that there probably wasn't anything they could do since the accounts that received the credit were already chosen. I haven't tried calling yet, but I figured I'd share what I've learned so far.

Open up Settings->Sound->Vibrate and you'll have different options to choose from.

There's also a cool app you can try out called Volume Control+ (free in the android market)

Thanks!

Another question. Is there a way to make the light blink when I get a text message? Doesn't seem to be a setting for it in the SMS setting menu.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using DroidForums

Got mine! Still trying to get my data restored from Titanium Backup and work out a few other thing but I like it so far.

Got my Nexxus today. I was a little disappointed when I looked at the phone. There are several nice things on the Samsung Charge that this phone doesn't have :frown:

Overall the look of the screens and button locations are nicer on the Charge. Font, size, graphic design. Especially the app screen. The Charge had nice big icon boxes. It looked cool.
On the Nexxus there are lots of mini apps on one screen and so they are smaller. The icons are not as attractively designed and they aren't in uniform square boxes :frown::frown::frown: Not as cool

The Nexus is basically a "naked" User Interface whereas the Charge has the TouchWiz UI. Things are going to be more basic and that is one of the big draws of this phone for alot of people including me:biggrin: Soon all of the talented dev's out there will have tons of customized ROM's available that will make the UI "cooler" for you.

I have trouble finding the apps screen and the settings key is not on the front like Charge ... you have to click two menu items to get into it. This phone is not that intuitive.

I like the settings button on the bottom like all my other droid's too, but there is a quicker way on the Nexus than you are following. If you pull down the Notifications window you can press next to the Date to open the settings window. Or you can place a Settings shortcut on your home screen.

On the calendar and anywhere you input information the Charge's input screens looked better... you typed in boxes. The nexxus has a line you are filling out, not a box.

I don't understand what you mean here because the text entry looks the same on my Nexus as it did on my OG and X. I never had or used the Charge tho:blink:

No cradle dock yet for the Nexxus, and when they do get one it won't come with a free spare battery like Charge's did and it will sit on it vertically instead of horizontally because the charger opening is on the bottom instead of the side..

This isn't true there are docks available. You are correct that they don't come with a spare battery. There is an HDMI dock that the Nexus sits vertically on but there are also docks that it sits horizontally on like normal. I don't have one yet but my understanding is the three metal "dots" on the right side are used for the horizontal connection.

Since it is a google phone it can't use any Verizon apps like My Verizon, Verizon videos or VZ Navigator

This also isn't true. It comes preloaded with My Verizon and VZ Backup Assistant. Verizon Video and VZ Navigator automatially downloaded overnight on mine and appear to work but I deleted them already. This VZW bloatware not being included was another BIG draw for Nexus buyers including me.

The camera is great so far (quality wise), but can I press a button on the actual phone? I don't like clicking the screen, I shake that way.

I haven't found a hard key for this either. I would prefer a button on top to press too.

So far I'm loving my new Nexus. I do wish my Facebook contacts would sync like before, but I just read in this thread someone has fixed that in a new ROM but I haven't rooted mine yet. I want to run it stock without unlocking the bootloader and rooting it for awhile first just to see how it performs.

I was 6th in line at Verizon on O Street in Lincoln Ne at 9:00 am this morning. Had a good time bemoaning the delays with the other Nexters. I didn't get the extended battery - wondering if that was a mistake..
Almost went there! But, the Verizon at the mall was closer. Nice to see another Nebraskan here haha.

Also Nebraska here

Papillion store still had plenty at noon yesterday and no foot traffic at all for them when I was in. People seem to like the OS of SNG but the hardware of the RAZR.

OK I know I am late to the party - just got home from my clinic but stopped to buy on the way. I rocks so far! I was so worried that I was almost 2 days late to the party that they would be gone. Good thing they got a second shipment! It is so sad seeing my dead OG Droid sitting on the desk so dark and lonely :frown:. It will get revived as a music player backup for sure.

I went from RAZR to Nexus and I love the Nexus much more. Got it rooted right away , installed the softkey patch , custom kernel , auto-brightness patch to get rid of those noisy screens.
Now, does anybody knows a way to put those Pandora controls on the lock-screen ?

I got mine on on launch day, I was # 4 in a line of about 20, but #2 to get one once in the store. No I didn't jump ahead...I even told the VZ dude that I wasn't next, he didn't care, do I didn't complain. Anyways on to the review, I don't know where all the hate is coming from in regards to calling this phone cheap. My first impression was all positive, yes the back is flimsy when removed. However is attaches very securely. The phone feels very sturdy, there is no flex when pressed or any sensation that is is hollow in any way. There are no residual plastic from casting evident. That being said, I have no idea why there are tons of reviews accusing this phone to be a POS. Ridiculous, I am happy...day 3 so far so good! Hoping my battery will improve :/ extended

I agree, phone definitely doesn't seem cheap to me. On the contrary I like the grippy back and it's so friggin light, especially toting my all-metal og droid for 2 years. Unlock and root was easy on the Nexus. Haven't found anything this phone can't do. It was great fun helping out a friend via Teamviewer on LTE while talking to them on the phone at the same time. :-D
