The "Official" Waiting for an Update Thread

The blame for lack of official updates has to be placed clearly on the shoulders of Verizon. The Sprint Nexus was released with 4.0.4 and updated prop blobs.

Now the beauty of the Nexus is that with the unlockable bootloader and open source, it makes it easy for devs to get the updated builds out to us. The only problem is that Google doesn't include the updated prop blobs because we are CDMA. We would need a Verizon OTA for that. These updated prop blobs could help many with the radio issues. Come on Verizon...

I was talking with a vzw tech the other morning, and she was trying to say its samsungs fault as to why we dont have have the update.I (addressed her by her name),said samsung is the maker of the phone, the issues we're having is softwear related, why would samsung the maker of the phone fix the OS?Google is the maker of the OS,so Goggle would be the one to fix all softwear problems.I told her Google has updated all nexuses but CDMAs,so this leads me to believe that VZW is holding up the update for whatever reason. And of course, she defended VZW,but IMO she didnt know what she was talking about, but Ill give her credit for sticking to her guns.

VZW "techs" (and I use that term loosely) generally know less than the average forum junkie. Of course when she has no idea she's going to defend Verizon. Lol. Verizon has a habit of delaying updates. Not just with Nexus phones, although its rather frustrating for us Nexus users since this is supposed to be a pure Google experience. You were right to question her, but you won't get anywhere with most of the techs. They'll simply tell you what you want to hear or direct the blame elsewhere.

This sounds like a well known national leader here in the US... blame everyone else... take no responsibility, tell everyone how great you are and how bad everyone else. Good going Verizon!

Seeing how fast this phone has dropped in price, next time Ill wait and not be in such a rush for the latest and greatest.

Seems like most of the complaints with the GN are coming from peeps who don't have root. Sorry but this phone was meant to root. I don't trust VZW or any other carrier to push updates, that's why I'm rooted. I have control over what my phone does....go buy a Razr or something similar, you'll be happy...I stopped talking VZW techs a long time ago, most don't know what they're talking about...point for me is, this is a great phone for peeps who want to play with their devices with total control over what experience you have.

How was it meant to root?
By the way, rooting alone doesn't fix anything.

No device, not even the Nexus should require flashing new ROMs or radios just to make it work properly.
That reasoning is nothing short of ridiculous.

BS>>>>This is why I don't post much here any more, because of guys like you who have to argue a point that is an opinion, please...if you don't like what I posted don't respond. Are you rooted? Do you even know the benefits of rooting a device like this? Probably not, I have a few choice words for you but not appropriate for this forum, you can guess what they are....haha.:p

A phone should work out of the box. No rooting and romming should be needed to make a phone work. I hate that excuse "well if you haven't rooted then what's the point of your phone"

If that's what it makes for the phone to work I won't be surprised if people stop buying androids eventually.

There are absolutely no benefits to rooting except for roms for battery life. I can do everything on the nexus, screenshots, tether etc.

It seems as though to have a properly working nexus you HAVE to root by some peoples definition.

Not only is your reasoning ridiculous, you also have trouble reading or comprehending.
Beneath my username it clearly states Galaxy Nexus BAMF Paradigm.

That means I'm using an alternate ROM.
I have rooted every Android device I've ever owned.

Knowing the benefits of rooting doesn't mean that I have to fall in line with the ridiculous logic that a $600 phone isn't supposed to work properly until it's been tweaked by the user.
