Thunderbolt General Discussion - This is Not A Release Date Discussion

thats why it will be great when VZ gets some real competition. Yes, for now we are stuck, at least if you live in an area where VZ is your only choice.

I think I'm going to try my hand at a droid 2.

My area won't have 4g for a long time. I was hoping to get locked in at the unlimited data plan

Verizon is supposed to just release it full of bugs so their customer satisfaction ratings (which they covet so greatly) go down the drain.... right?

I guarantee you that if the phone would've released on 2/24 full of bugs, all the vitriolic TB posts you've read would look like nothing.

There would be a whole new subforum for HTC and VZW hate. (Although based on the entitlement of a few people here, I think we should have that anyway)

IF they would have done that we would have custom roms that fixed the "problems", HTC would take notice and have an official update... problem solved, well that is unless it's all "the network", then Big Red would just blame it on our hardware?

Yeah you're so right, because 100% of android users root, don't they? Its already been 14 days past Feb. 14th... if the phone released on that date, could you imagine how many returns they wouldve had? How many of those users would've returned it for the iPhone?

Obviously HTC wouldn't have released a patch by now since the phone still waits for its errors to be fixed.

Basically, you proved my point, you feel entitled. You think the phone should've been released with errors because you think the dev community would've made it work for YOU. Verizon has far more users that don't want to rely on third party roms, or simply don't know about them, than do.... seriously, with all the malware on Android, do you really want to rely on cooked up roms? Probably not the smartest move.

Funny cuz I have a d2 and am wanting a tb.

Actually the TB will have swype..
And there are no cats in america and the streets are paved with cheese!

This was asked and answered in JohnBoy's Demo thread.

yeah but I'd be willing to bet he didn't check or know how to check.. He just said he installed the beta and it wasn't working.. Sound crazy but judging by some of his posts hgt had some problems navigating the settings.. Guess we will find out...

Just saw this comment. the TBolt does NOT come with SWYPE pre-installed. I know how to check settings on Android phones, I just don't know how to "hack" them as well as others.

Are you sure? I'm almost positive that it will come preloaded, I think I heard it somewhere. Did the Incredible has swype?

Just because you heard it somewhere does not make it so or provide proof. I had also read a spec sheet comparing iPhone, TB, and Bionic that had Swype included for the TB and Bionic, but now I believe that it will not come on the TB out of the box.

Link? Source? Or are you just saying this because you think so. Johnboy in the Demo thread said his did not have it. It is not available in the market yet. It is still in beta version on the Swype website. Hence, not pre-loaded.

At work can't look up source but wire flys phone had it

This is false. Fast forward to about 3:00 on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCdSyeo6KFY]YouTube - HTC ThunderBolt Review - Part 1 You can clearly see that it is the standard Keyboard. (No blue "S" key)

Swype doesn't always show up in that manner. Sometimes you have to use the menu key to go to input method and select swype or qwerty. I know its not as simple as a button all the time on my X. I would be amazed if it didn't come with swype.

But was it set to on? My Droid X doesn't have the "S" key unless I enable it (swype) in the settings.....

I was specifically answering Viper's mention that WireFly's phone had it, and here is video proof that it is not shown in the WireFly video.

I have had a Droid X since before it was released for sale and realize that SWYPE only shows up if you enable it, but I am telling you that on the Pre-Production model of the Thunderbolt there is NO SWYPE pre-installed. That doesn't mean that the final product won't have it... just trying to clear up my name as it was suggested that I don't know how to enable/disable/check for SWYPE.

But was it set to on? My Droid X doesn't have the "S" key unless I enable it (swype) in the settings.....

Opened the box, powered on, went through Gmail (1st time) setup steps. Immediately went into Settings>Language & Keyboard and there was only options to set the Language and "Touch Input," which is the single letter pecking type of KB.

Trust me, SWYPE is my lifeblood on my phone... has been for the last ~10 months! ;)

My friend has about 1000 songs on his computer that i plan on putting on the tbolt. My question is will the songs go on the storage card or the phones internal storage? Does the phone give me the option and does it make a difference? Thanks in advance

I'll say you'll no doubt want to put them on the sd card. You can mount the card to your PC via USB and copy. Most music players will have a setting where they should look for media and you can direct to the Music directory you make on your card.

Would you recommend a d2 global

If you like roms then no. If you want a decent device for business and you want to root but dont care to tweak then you may like it. I personally do not like blur.
