Update Radio to Newest Version (does NOT require root)

Unrevoked three is a little lower on the power chain and harder to screw up your phone. Only thing is, should you flash an official OTA, it will break root. Also, you can't install the 2.15 radio update with unrevoked forever. Once unrevoked forever is done, you will always be able to root your phone.

after updating the radio last night i think i want to just go ahead and root the phone. the problem is i have no idea what im about to do. do i have to do anything once i start to run unrevoked 3 or will that do everything for me? and once that finishes, how would i go about installing skyraider 2.5.2 with sense? (i have everything downloaded already, i just dont know what to do with these items).

Come over to Incredible Forums. Find the thread called one click root for noobs. It will walk you through step by step. Just what you need.

By the way, if you have trouble finding it, shoot me a message and I'll give you a hand. We have a lot of common members. We'll get you up and running.

So Im really tryin to update my radio but all these instructions are entirely too complicated for a tech noob like myself. Is there an easier way?

Hang in there SamiSmell....

I thought the same thing, yet I did this no problem. Worst part is waiting for the phone to apply the updates. Be patient, don't interrupt the process and trust what you've read. In the end it was easy and not at all worth the stress I invested.

Hmmmmm is root this easy too?

To all who posted prior.
Thanks for both the questions and answers. I learned from all, it helped.

JK - THank you for all the guides and hard work here. Great instructions; clear, concise and helpful. :)

I've had this miniature marvel for about a month and am loving it. Can't wait to try the new 720 video tonight at Red Rocks.

Denver, you're very welcome. The other members here and at Incredible Forum have taught me a lot in a short time and I'm still working on getting deeper into it. Loving it since tweaking.

And yes, the one step root is VERY easy. If you have access to a Mac, it couldn't get any easier. I've never turned back since rooting.

If you have access to a Mac...

No Mac, I do have a couple of dead Ipod's though.

Going to try getting all my Itunes stuff swapped over and sync'd, if that goes well I may give rooting a shot.

I program CNC so I'm not a complete techno dweeb. This is my only, and rather expensive, phone so I want to feel confident I'm not going to brick. If I do brick I'll be on my BB Storm and have my wife's foot where the sun doesn't shine. I can handle the foot but the thought of going back to a Storm.... :cus:

Radio has the biggest chance for brickage. If you have gone through that root, and s-off are a cake walk.

I've noticed after updating my radio, picture messages take forever to download, if at all. It just says downloading forever... Anyone else noticing this?

What do you mean? Like text picture messages? Let me know and I'll try on mine. Of course, I may not be a perfect gauge since I've flashed Froyo, but still will be more than happy to check.

I'm referring to picture messages via texting, yes. I'm not sure if it's just handcent though. Before this, it always said generic messaging failed or something first.Never downloads right away. But now it just takes forever! haha.

I've decided to root with unrevoked 3. What is s-off? Is that froyo?

I just sent one to myself through Handcent and it worked great.

As far as rooting, go here for the best directions. I recommend unrevoked 3 and the Froyo Skyraider 2.5.2 ROM with Sense or Vanilla at this point. I'm using it and rock solid stable and has some great improvements over base Froyo.

When you flash this ROM, you will need to add components by further flashing when you're done. It's not hard once you add Titanium Backup and ROM Manager. In fact, it becomes very easy.

Follow this thread and look for my posts. The guys over there walked me through step by step and did an outstanding job. I think this should help you immensely.
