[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

Yeah, its bull**** for those of us that have been with Verizon for years. But as one guy on here said thanks to all those douche bags who bragged about using in excess of 100 GB a month on their plan through apps like Fox Fi. I myself use Fox Fi, but omfg, the last thing I'm going to do is brag about my usage. Ya know, this reminds me of the Army...its called 'mass punishment'...the majority pays for the stupidity of a few.

The percentage of data hogs are probably very small compared to those using only 2-4 gigs a month. Verizon just wants more money. Stop blaming the less than 1% of the people who are data hogs, blame Verizon!

Who cares if people bragged about it. Verizon can see how much we use if we brag about it or not

I thought the 1% was the enemy here... Down with wall street!..... oh, wait...what?

I think I found the wrong angry mob.....

Verizon is no Ferrari. Secondly, your analogy is wrong, as VZ is providing the roadway not the vehicle and unfortunately for them there are other roads users can travel on. It has zero to do with money in general terms and everything to do with VZ now providing nothing that we can't get from other carriers and then some. Clearly you didn't read the intelligent, well posed responses to this issue already posted in this thread. I guess perhaps you don't get that some people simply using common apps like Netflix and Spotify that VZ is now touting heavily would literally be paying hundreds per month in data overages even if they had the top tier plan available. Most movies are at least 2gigs and streaming songs eats up data as well, so you do the math when it's 10gigs/month max @ $80 and $10/gig over that. 20gigs per month will cost you an extra $2400/year. But I guess we just aren't ballin' out of control like you so too bad for us.

Yeah, if you're on unlimited 4G and buy your phone full price or elsewhere then it will simply be a matter of if VZ is willing to tier you knowing that you are free to jump ship.

lol i wish i was a baller. Ah thanks for pointing out my analogy. Yea i havent read every single response on this thread, i just browsed through them. Yea the reason why i forgot about those data draining apps is because i just use netflix at home and my ipod for my music.

Well news sure got around.

My mom even knows about this. I guess a lot of news stations picked up on this, and NO ONE (not just us cell phone enthusiasts) are PISSED OFF about it. So, all you freedom fighters, it seems like you got the casual user on your side now.

I am not sure if this has been posted or not but nice to see they are pleasing their investors by charging us more money.

Verizon plans price hikes for Fios, wireless users | Mobile - CNET News

F Shammo....RIGHT THING TO DO!?!? What an idiot. Yeah go ahead, jack prices up and see if you don't drive customers away. How do these people get into these positions when they are ****less about economics !?! High prices decrease current subscribers and certainly do not bring in new subscribers.

On that not, Sign it and spread it far and wide.

Word has been spread that, as with the $2 fee, if the petition can reach 50,000 people they will take action. Let's see what we can do and if that is, indeed, true.

Don't you mean everyone is pissed off about it?
And I was hoping the news stations would pick this up, its going to be one heck of a backlash for Verizon

I happen to be on one of these 3g plans, and if I'm going to lose contracted services, I had better be offered an early upgrade or release. If I'm going to be charged for leaving my contract early, not meeting my end of the deal, then verizon should have to do likewise.

They won't change mid-contract. If you attempt to upgrade (sign a new contract) after the changes have been made, you will be required to choose a new tiered plan.

I will say this: it os stupid to create a device that can do so much and then limit the way you use it. Stupid and i am not gonna say i will kump ship or not. But if i stay i will be discarding several apps that i love but dont need and changing push settings for some of my accounts. Pretty much dumbing down my smartphone.

I think the entire tiered data thing is the stupidest thing the phone companies have done so far...it makes no sense other than them being greedy
cell carriers pushing limited data while everything else is moving toward online (cloud) storage, like Google music, Google drive, dropbox, etc.

Looks like i will be stopping by a vzw store to see how much the reps know about this and just upgrade now instead of waiting for the droid fighter. At least i can squeeze another few years out of unlimited before getting screwed.
