[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

I just used the online chat and they said that they can't tell me a date yet, because they still don't know it. I didn't read all 56 pages of this thread, so forgive me. Does anyone have an idea of when it will be, or is it still just "Mid-Late Summer" what ever that means?
The problem is that my upgrade date is 7/22, I'm really hoping that it doesn't take effect until after that.

It's been used in many businesses today to throw away honesty and just stand firm on denying everything to avoid lawsuits. Verizon probably still discussing things with their powerful lawyers on how to step into things. More chance of costumers know first via leaks on medias a day before official announcement. AFAIK, there were some people here with few months left in their contract allowed to upgrade their phones during the BoGo Razr deal. I guess it all depend on Verizon stores and hope you don't meet up with a jerky rep, but keep on trying if you do. I read from Verizon email that has been posted on here too that it could happen this summer.

All for the almighty $$$ Dollar $$$

You got it mike they need to wake up and realize that they are not the only game in town about time customers take a stand and let them know where they stand so they are liars because they told me that i would never lose my unlimited data as long as i kept it (been with Verizon sense 1998) so if thats the case it may be time for a change .............. Darryl

Isn't it T-Mo pre-paid that has the unlimited 4G (throttled after 5GB) and unlimited text with 100 talk for $30 a month??? That sounds like an amazing deal (to me at least).

Found the answer myself: Prepaid Cell Plans | No Contract Plans | Text, Talk or Web | T-Mobile

Yes they have several options. Trust me I love my VZW 4G LTE, but after switching my wife to T-Mobile to get her a smart phone because I couldn't afford to add data to her phone. Her phone even includes free wifi calling (which hasn't worked well if I talk on my blue-tooth on my phone while talking to my wife, background noise?).

Anyway, we feel that the service is 90% of what she had with VZW and she does use wifi unless she is on the road so data and speed isnt much of an issue. This month she did go over the limit and got throttled and noticed a bit of a slow down but it was only 2 days left until it reset.

You can even setup auto payments for the prepaid service and it is literally $51.50 with tax! We have had to call customer service only twice and each time they were very helpful even though we are PAYG customers!

I am not trying to sell T-Mobile, VZW coverage and data is much better, but with a premium. If they come out with Bonehead data plans then in October when my contract is up I will probably sell my phone and get the best Samsung available compatible with T-mobile.

From what I have read about other pre-paid, T-Mobile is the best. The downside to T-Mobile is other than saving on the cost of the phone there is no benefit to signing a contract. The contract rates are way higher (probably just to offset the phone costs!)

The thing I like about Prepaid is there is no comitment, if I jump ship (port my #) and am not happy, I can always sell my phone and come crawling back to VZW. :hail: The only thing lost will be my track record with VZW and some leverage with customer support.

Those who sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind

And a big thank you goes out to those bragging about using upwards of 100GBs a month of data on unlimited plans.
Yep. The less than one percent of pigs have well and truly screwed the rest of us. VZW should just have tossed them in the wastebasket when it came renewal time. On the other hand, what a wonderful excuse to raise prices. Anyway, thanks, data hogs.

Hmmmm, may have to consider T-mobile now

If you're feeling froggy VZW then JUMP.

I dare them to do it. I have no problem leaving for Sprint.
Sure VZW is better, but I don't think they're $700 per year better than Sprint.

$700 per year is not a bad deal.
thats $58 per month

Maybe it's the difference between Sprint and Verizon yearly cost? Cause I paid near $2000 w/o phones yearly to Verizon :D . Anyways... since we are talking about Data phone... I will do this :icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek: for $28+ $30 mandatory data plan.

What do they mean by a discounted phone? Does discounted by Verizon, count? For instance
I recently saw a Verizon ad for a $99 Droid 4. I currently have a Droid 3 and am 10 months into
A 2 year Verizon unlimited contract. If I bought this phone now from Verizon, and renewed my 2 year
contract , would I lose my unlimited data plan???

No. It's not in effect yet. Get your upgrades in now though. If you don't use them (and you plan to keep unlimited data), you lose them.

Since you have about 10 months until your eligible for a subsidized upgrade, you would not be able to get the Droid 4 for $99. You would have to pay its full cost. My guess is in the $500 range.

You and I are some of the unfortunate ones who cannot get a subsidized upgrade until after the likely end of unlimited data. :(

:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: VERIZON are such a JERK.... J-E-R-K !!!!

This is why they changed their statement about how one can keep their unlimited data. This will help those who doesn't care to spend some money.

At first, I don't want to make it as big of a deal as right now because before hand they said (Shammo) "
When you think about our 3G base — a lot of our 3G base is unlimited — as they start to migrate into 4G, they will have to come off of unlimited and go into the data share plan, and that’s beneficial for us for many reasons, obviously". This type of thing do not bother me much even though someday it may affect current 4G owners. I already am in 4G phone, and like I said before this will affect loads of Iphone users and that's why Sprint did all their ads about "Why limiting what your Iphone can do?"

There are some smart people devising to prevent such thing from happening to them:

1. Get 4G phones anyways ... doesn't matter if your place can't cover 4G... THE PRICE IS THE SAME!!!! Get the phone activated in the store where they are covered in 4G. This way you can get 4G if you go to a place that can do 4G instead of stuck with 3G capable only phones.

2. Many people would get cheap 4G capable phone now as they can later on can have unlimited data plan for their Iphone 5 at a subsidized price. They are trying to outsmart Verizon as they are no longer migrating from 3G when Family tiered data plan will take effect.

NOW
:mad::mad: Verizon just claimed that you get to keep Unlimited Data when you get your own phone! This is what happens when Evil meet Evil :icon_ devil: throwing fires at each other....
