[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

Hey kids,
All this ranting and venting is rather tiresome. It only indicates how immature/impotent you are. There are only 2 truths.
1) This may come as a surprise to some but VZW is a profit seeking company. Nothing wrong with that. But its out to make as much of a profit as it can. Its not your mother and it is not benign. It is what it is. If there were no competition there would be no limit as to rates.
2) All this speculation how prices and terms will be is even more pointless. We can guess all day but what is the point. Wait until they come out with the final figures. I suspect they don't even have the final numbers set in stone yet.

What to do? Wait until you have to make a decision and then see what is available then. That is my 3 cents. I may be wrong. I was wrong once myself

+1...i'll never understand the utter shock that resonates across this forum when a company does something to increase their profits or protect their investments. but whatever.

and yeah its just rampant speculation and rumors, and i for one dont believe it until verizon says it, not when droid-life or p3droid tells me. but still, there's nothing wrong with discussing the possibility. the forum would be pretty boring if everyone just talked about verified stuff haha

I use up just under or over 5GB every month (no tether). I see some that only use 1/2GB or less. I don't see how you people do that. Why have smartphones then?? My sister and my mother use 1.5 to 2GB per month and I see them as below average users.

In fact if I got a 4G phone I could see my usage easily going up. People are gonna start letting app developers dish out 4 or 5 updates before they actually do the update. Also I wonder if OTA's count towards the plan.

I am available for upgrade on July 21 so either Verizon lets me upgrade a little early or I'm leaving the service in Nov. when my contract expires.

With tiered data, there is no point in 4G, since absolute overkill. Also no point in Netflix, since two and a half movies busts past 2gb. If I will be forced to mainly use wifi, why bother with 4G.

Do folks not appreciate that 4G and tiered data is a contradiction in premise? The faster the speed, the more data people will use.

VZW is COUNTING on people breaching 2GB so they are charged more. Probably looks great on a business case but most folks that use Netflix much will say BITE ME.

Lol it's another way of making money has nothing to do with illegal tethering. They can threaten u to stop. My friend who was grand fathered with att unlimited internet does illegal tethering and they threatened him to stop based on getting 20 gigabytes a month with internet.

if att did it and got away with it verizon figures why not.

The people who are illegally tethering are already locked in btw so they don't need to worry about this. And nobody does 200gb a month. That's insane.

I wonder how the overages will be treated? If I go over that 2gb cap, is it instantly an extra $10? In that case you might as well use that extra gig up. Or is anything under a gig over ok, and once you hit that extra gig you get charged the $10.

i guess those ppl will have to go to a higher tier...if you expect to use a crapload of data, you have to pay. it's not anything revolutionary that is being proposed.

instant. wouldn't make sense to give you a free 999MB after you go over 2GB...

I would say the point is why push 4G devices and their premium costs, or Netlfix apps if the data will be tiered? Most people can not afford the combination. If folks want to spin this that VZW just wants to make money, cool- but blaming tether users is nuts, since VZW can and has throttled heavy users.

VZW is simply paving the road for milking iPhone users that will bail from Att after this year, since a lot of contracts will be complete and folks will move to the iPhone 5 on VZW network- due to better coverage.

If the issue was heavy users, VZW can control that. VZW would be lying out their butts if they blames the changes to heavy users.

Wifi. I didn't get a smartphone because Verizon is so awesome and I can't wait to use their network. I got it so I could have access to the internet, email and apps when I needed. I don't see the need to use 3g just because I can, when I have wifi all the time and its far faster...

Wifi isn't always available. At work I don't have access. When on the road I don't have access. I don't even have wifi at home.

I don't think VZW has ever come out and blamed anyone have they? The blame stuff is all just forumspeak. I don't think VZW has to blame anyone, nor will they. They're looking to make a buck and they're doing that. All companies do it. Why is everyone so up in arms about this?

You gotta pay for what you want. This is not something unheard of or some new concept. It's been that way for hundreds of years. Do Jordans really cost $250? Do t-shirts with a company name on it really cost $50? It's just how it is. They're not going to give away their service, and why should they? They're not here to make the world a better place.

If you want to stream Netflix all day you gotta pay. You're using their network. If you want to stream 50GB of pandora a month you gotta pay. And if you want to replace your ISP with a cellphone company you have to pay.

I agree that the people who tether are not the sole cause of this, but I'm sure it had something to do with it. Do you think VZW is ok with letting people use 50GB of data when 99% don't even use 5GB? Why would the be ok with a couple of people using 10 times what 99% of their customers use and pay the same price? Why wouldn't they want to make some extra cash off those people? Again, I'm not saying the tiers are fair, they're probably not, but why are people surprised over this? Why would they be fair?

Well, once my contract is up on my thunderbolt ill be going to tmobile or sprint. I wish I could now, my boyfriend just got a Sensation and it's awesome.

I know. I was just answering your question of "how do you people do it?"...that's how. Not everyone uses 3g and from the Nielsen numbers I would think many millions use wifi more so than 3g. That doesn't mean they shouldn't have a smartphone...

bolded statement puts you in a small minority of smartphone owners. His logic will not apply to you.

I have a question I hope someone can answer...

My girlfriend is about to pay retail for an iphone (yeah yeah, I know... trust me, I know.) Anyway, if she keeps her current unlimited plan and just outright buys the iphone, she should be grandfathered in past any of this tiered foolishness. NOW, when the 4G iPhone comes out, if she feels the need to upgrade to 4G (she has wifi everywhere she goes pretty much) can she buy the 4G iphone outright and be grandfathered also?

Data Usage

Is there a way to tell how much data I use each month right now? I'm curious now that these plans are coming out. There are other carriers that might not have coverage as good as Verizon but they get the better phones much earlier than Verizon and they have rates that are much cheaper.
