[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

No, this was going off an assumption that the prices listed in OP could be shared on a family plan.

If true, then this thread and all the venting will have been a big fat waste of time... and it'll be great news honestly.

There may be some aspect due to unauthorized tethering, but I think this is a precursor to what the 4G speeds will be capable of. We've already seen people admit on here about using a tethered phone rather than a hardline at their house. Imagine how many more people would be doing that with the high speed of the 4G. It WOULD become a problem. Does everyone really think this data is unlimited as far as systemwide capacity? People, use some logic. There is only so much the system and towers can transfer without shutting down. That is a straight up fact.

Why is it so many are unwilling to accept this reality?

It is understandable that VZW would have to do something to prevent unlawful tethering in replace of a hardline at home but this is not the way to do. If this was the sole motif behind the policy change, then VZW could have just capped data at 10GB a month (or something similar). It will be pretty obvious who is using tethering as a replacement to a hardline, and VZW could just implement a new policy to prevent that from happening without punishing those who use data legitimately.

Why did you quote something and then talk about a totally different subject?

Nothing you wrote has anything to do with jkhonea's rather logical assessment. If they don't cap the data people will fry the system by using 4G.

People who tether are not a major issue, you got to look at the big picture. It's got nothing to do with punishing anyone. It's got to do with having a system work without being overloaded. More and more people are buying smart phones and using data. It's easy to understand that 4G is using more data then 3G.

I don't know why that doesn't make sense to everyone.

I thought I did? I agree that it would be a problem because unlimited 4G data would lead to many people replacing hardline connections with tethering. And I understand that this would cause problems regarding system capabilities. These changes will certainly prevent that from happening but it also punishes customers who use their devices to watch Netflix or stream other videos at a rate > 5GB a month.

We'll have to wait and see. It could make a big difference for some people.

True... I guess it's not necessarily great for the individual users - but for family plans it would be nice. One can hope...

Agreed, just was wondering i haven't been 100% keeping up, so i didn't know if they released anything new about it. Yes if the data could be shared then all is well, at least for those who have a family plan. But something tells me that it won't be that simple, there will be hidden charges or something stupid with it. I hope not, but they don't have a track record of not doing that.

Very true - and has any carrier ever done a data pool like that? Seems like it could either be something "revolutionary" (couldn't think of a more subtle word) or something new and different, and therefore "stay away!!"...

Makes sense to me. But then, a lot of things that make sense to me don't make sense to people here.

I agree that the people who tether are not a major issue, but i cant help but laugh at those who swore that verizon can "never stop us no matter how much they try." Well if this is true...you've just been stopped. Enjoy the overages.

If this is for family plans, this is awesome news...if it's for individual lines its meh cuz I'm not going to save any money, but I won't be losing money or having to worry about the network slowing down to a crawl because some kid wants to replace his ISP with a cellphone company.

For what it's worth, so far this month I'm at a whopping 0.15GB used!! The horror!!!

To anyone who is royally peeved about this leaked announcement, don't voice your anger at Verizon.

Voice your anger towards the thousands of rooters who illegally tethered hundreds of thousands of GBs a month by running their home network through the Verizon data plan. Verizon didn't have to do this, but the incessant selfishness of the idiotic few completely forced their hands, and now we ALL have to pay for it.

So to you, the idiot abuser who streamed 200GB per month in data while using their phone as a router, PS3/XBox server, while downloading and uploading countless amounts of Torrents, I want to personally thank you for gouging our pockets in the future. You are awesome! Hope the Torrents of SpongeBob and the blazing speeds while playing Halo or Modern Warfare were totally worth it.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

That is complete BS. VZW can EASILY throttle heavy users and VZW have done this in the past. This is PURELY to charge more for data. If VZW wanted to control heavy users, they can throttle them.

This will backfire on VZW and VZW can bite me- real good :):icon_evil:

I use up just under or over 5GB every month (no tether). I see some that only use 1/2GB or less. I don't see how you people do that. Why have smartphones then?? My sister and my mother use 1.5 to 2GB per month and I see them as below average users.

In fact if I got a 4G phone I could see my usage easily going up. People are gonna start letting app developers dish out 4 or 5 updates before they actually do the update. Also I wonder if OTA's count towards the plan.

I am available for upgrade on July 21 so either Verizon lets me upgrade a little early or I'm leaving the service in Nov. when my contract expires.

Wifi. I didn't get a smartphone because Verizon is so awesome and I can't wait to use their network. I got it so I could have access to the internet, email and apps when I needed. I don't see the need to use 3g just because I can, when I have wifi all the time and its far faster...

How about a dose of reality?

Hey kids,
All this ranting and venting is rather tiresome. It only indicates how immature/impotent you are. There are only 2 truths.
1) This may come as a surprise to some but VZW is a profit seeking company. Nothing wrong with that. But its out to make as much of a profit as it can. Its not your mother and it is not benign. It is what it is. If there were no competition there would be no limit as to rates.
2) All this speculation how prices and terms will be is even more pointless. We can guess all day but what is the point. Wait until they come out with the final figures. I suspect they don't even have the final numbers set in stone yet.

What to do? Wait until you have to make a decision and then see what is available then. That is my 3 cents. I may be wrong. I was wrong once myself
